In this video we look back at the story of 18-year old Alexander as he prepares to move from a juvenile cellblock into the adult population of a maximum-security adult prison. Back in 2010 during the filming of this video, kids who were sentenced to adult prison as juveniles were placed in a separate cellblock that only housed kids under age 18. However, once a youth turned 18 they were immediately transferred to the adult population, either at this same prison or one of the other adult prisons around the state.
In this video, we first hear Alexander talk about how he got the news he'd be transferring later that day with another 18-year old, Michael, who would be moving to the adult cellblock with him. We then see the entire prison transfer as it happened, with both boys packing their things in a cart and wheeling their items across the huge prison yard to their new "home" on the adult side of the prison. We then hear some final words from Alexander as he tells our crews what his hopes and dreams are, and where he expects to be in the years ahead.
