Reporters sensationalize things for engagement. This guy is putting the story in his own words, not using direct quotes from Keira. Y'all should read the actual interview. All she says basically is it was "interesting" playing the "object of everybody’s lust" when she had actually been a tomboy and that it made her feel constrained in her career to be put in a box she didn’t really understand or want and that she was too young to know how to express that. She also says her character had a lot of fight in her and that she knows shes incredibly lucky to have been apart of this franchise and that it launched her career. I couldn’t find any quote of her saying she had an issue with the kiss with Depp (Keira said she begged for it to happen and was happy she got it, Depp says he felt uncomfortable with it because of her age - she was reportedly 21 at the time). I also couldn't find any quote of her saying she felt “overly sexualized as a teen" in these films. That’s just this guy putting her comments into his own words. She never said Elizabeth was overly sexualized, just that she was an object of lust and that those weren't the roles Keira had in mind for herself. I don't go out of my way to stand up for many celebs but Keira's always been a real one and y'all need to stop hating on her based on misinformation.

The role wasn't sexualized, it was a part of the role and she accepted it knowingly! If the character was missing certain things that is being called "sexualization", it would be missing the same essence, it wouldn't even be accurate to the times the movie was taking place nor would other characters make sense with how they treat her, considering they're PIRATES.

Someone sounds bitter over their most memorable and greatest role. Her only “sexualization” was a few implicating jokes in pirates. Her wardrobe, dialogue and growth through the franchise could literally be a poster example for feminism. Disney went above and beyond in her character and well now it’s impossible to imagine another actress in her role, Natalie Portman would have done just as good, or if they put Zoe Saldana in Elizabeth’s role instead she would have killed it even more.

The fact they were so quick to drop him, and when he told them he wouldn’t come back and the guy responded with “it’ll be water under the bridge in a few years” basically disregarding Johnny’s statement by implying that what they did doesn’t matter, is extremely disrespectful. So, putting a young woman at the center of a high stakes adventure and making her badass is sexualizing her? Are women even allowed to exist anymore? It seems like no matter what we do, women like her come out and say that it was sexualized. Barbosa was the bad guy, of course he’d give her an ultimatum where he would get what he wanted on the end. As for fan fiction, don’t like it, don’t read it. It’s not like there were any super huge authors publishing it and making tons of money off it. Edit: guess it was all this guy making her sound like a weirdo, so change the “women like her” to “people like him” and the rest of my statement still stands.
