South Sudanese President Salva Kiir and Vice President Riek Machar have agreed to create a unified armed forces command. This was one of several issues holding up the implementation of the 2018 peace deal. Appointments for the command structure are expected to be made in a week. The unified forces will then be expected to graduate within two months. Leadership of the forces will follow a 60-40 split in favour of President Kiir.
