Quick note. I accidentally say "2001 Loch Gorm" when I mean to say "2021 Loch Gorm"

Thanks for shining a light on Kilchoman, Vin. As you say, Kilchoman do not chill filter their whisky, nor use any colouring. Great stuff. Slàinte mhath

I’ve become a real fan of Kilchoman for their cask experimentation and the uniqueness of their distillate + peat. I’ve found the weirder special releases really reward patience as time in the glass and bottle open up alot and integrate balance better as they transform. Even when it’s not the best initially, I’m rarely disappointed in the long run, so nibble those bottles slowly gents!

I would LOVE to be a fan of Kilchoman, they just price me out of their releases

I really enjoy Kilchoman, haven't had the PX yet but had a lot of single casks and a lot of cask finishes and not one disappointed me. They are, as you've said, expensive which is why I tend to try them at bars when I come across rather than pull the trigger on full bottles. Cheers Vin!

That PX number is fantastic. I'm really interested to see how it compares to the new 2023 release. Just need to get over the price barrier.

@18:26 "At $120 I can't afford to buy that." Bruh... how many bottles do you have...? 😂 Sorry, couldn't resist! I really enjoy their 100% Islay editions. Sanaig is also great bang for the buck. Kilchoman definitley one of my favorite distilleries.

A good question. I've got around 100 open bottles but I would say maybe a handful are over £100

@@NoNonsenseWhisky So you probably have 400-500 bottles? I mean I have about 50 open and have around 220 bottles total.

As it goes, nearly all of my bottles are open. I have maybe 5-6 bottles sealed and the rest are all fair game to me and visitors

I'll start by admitting I'm a Kilchoman fanboy. I like their product, but not their prices. I'm decided Loch Gorm is my replacement for Lag16 and I've killed a couple vintages of it. This was a great sample Saturday with a vertical of their stuff. Now that I've seen your reaction to the PX I think I will have to make that my next "special bottle" purchase. I am sure I would love the PX, but I've never been willing to pay the price for a bottle of that. I really love peat and sherry when they are well balanced and that is how I feel about Loch Gorm although there has been more or less balance in each release. Cheers, Vin.

I'm the same as you Bud. I've only ever owned the Machir Bay because the route to entry is just so expensive. That PX though, phenomenal stuff. I'd stretch to it if I could but I can get a similar experience from the 1770 PX for less than half

I was at a Scotland v England tasting last week, and interestingly the final pair was English Whisky Co 11yo heavily peated v Kilchoman 100% Islay 10yo. The English dram won, seriously though, there was very little to choose between them. Other results were Ardnamurchan AD narrowly defeated White Peak Caduro, and Ryelaw trounced Berry Bros Oxford Artisan Rye, (which I thought was awful and crazy priced at £92). But overall an interesting night and food for thought to the quality of the English spirit.

That's really interesting! Gone are the days when English whisky can simply be dismissed and hopefully it'll just keep getting stronger as a category (if the EWA doesn't ruin it)

Vin, just checked and I picked up 2 x 2021 Px matured bottles for £75 each back in 2021 from House of Malt. Interesting that these are now £120.

Another great video Vin. Whilst I've got a few Kikchoman's in my stash, and I had a zoom tasting recently, I do rather struggle to get on with them in contrast to other peated drams. That said, I do like their PX versions, perhaps because I like sherry and peat.

Hi Vin, Kilchoman do like putting out their expressions at rather steep prices ( machir bay and sanaig still decent prices) don’t they. Saying that I’ve been looking at the Islay barley 2023 for quite a while now, pricey at €85 but decided to pull the trigger anyway. Hope the whisky can live up to its price. Interesting sample Saturday video.👍Slàinte Vin 🥃

They were one of the first new distilleries that I remember being priced out of early on, seems like everyone else has played catch up since. Hopefully it'll come down at some point!

Interesting in the US I see my share of special releases around, and with the current exchange rate they are priced about GBP 90 for me. I'm getting more availability and better pricing than you are.

I remember when I was in Texas a few years back, I saw Scotch on the shelf in a normal shop that I've not even seen in a specialist over here. Just how allocation goes sometimes!
