Yiannis Kouros is a '' one every 100 years'' athlete. His recovery rate was out of this world. This guy never slept over 4 hours and he holds many men's outdoor road world records from 100 to 1,000 miles and many road and track records from 12 hours to 6 days. His life documentary is a must see from everyone in my opinion. Kilian has the speed (dont be fooled by kouros running style he holds a 2:24 marathon in one of the hardest courses like Athens marathon) but i dont know if he can endure the pain in a 24H track race. If he break the record he MUST try to break the SPARTATHLON course record (I dont think that anyone can finish the race under 20:25 ). I Hope he is well and i am sure that he will be very close.
@InmAncalagon

Of the all time best performances in the 24h run, Yiannis has places 1 - 11 to himself! The best result by anyone other than Yiannis himself is 282km, a full half marathon short or almost 1kph slower. In the 23 years since his record, noone even came close. Yiannis still holds literally every world record over 24h, 48h, 6 days, 1000km, 1000 mile and everything in between. His 4 starts at Spartathlon are still the 4 fastest times ever by some margin. As much as I would love to see Kilian succeed, this is impossible for him to break. Yiannis is the untouchable GOAT.

yes @@mbengaful, but the key point, as Sage said in his video, is the efficiency keeping that pace. It is not that Kilian PB is 4:13 pace for 90km... but that was his "autopilot" pace, a comfortable pace, to check different nutrition strategies. And that gives a sign of what he can do if he slows down 30 sec... We cannot forget that he has the highest ever recorded Vo2Max for a runner (there is no official data from Kipchoge, but some analysis made his lower). Anyway, it is his first attempt, we can only wait and see :)

It is my understanding that to have this record recognised, I still don't think he will get close, it must be done in an actual race. Kouros set the record in a race, taking whatever conditions were on offer. Shifting the 'race' to suit the conditions is highly questionable. It's similar to Kipchoge's 1:59:40, therevare certain conditions that must be met.
@Vo2maxProductions

it is supposed to be a "race" with other competitors. Whether or not they'll have drug testing and automatic lap counting (digital splits etc) i don't know. It requires a lot get an official world record. They certainly could have the budget for it though.
@htmonaro1969
3 жыл бұрын
@@Vo2maxProductions Kipchoge's 2:00:25 would have met those conditions, in that there were two other competitors in that event as well. Walmsley's 50mi record is now regarded by some as "unofficial" because it was a manufactured event, with only Hoka sponsored runners in it. I regard Journett very highly, but setting up an event like this could hurt his reputation if he goes on to claim Kouros' record. Kouros, by the way won something like 60 ultras and only got paid for 10 of them. Sponsorship in ultra running was rare back then. The IAU 24hr World Championships will be on in 2021, he should try to break the record there, rather than game the system for his sponsors. I watched Kipchoge's 1:59:40, knowing it was a magnificent feat, but destined to not be a recognised wr.
