Abstract. This video shows a broadcast produced by RAI, the Italian public television broadcaster, dedicated to the archaeological area of Ocriculum. The focus is on the various areas of the ancient city whose ruins are still visible, and on their social function. The original Via Flaminia, on whose bricks we can still see the furrows of ancient chariots, was one of the most important roads of the Roman Empire. The baths, which were built by deviating the San Vittore canal, are located in a large octagonal room, whose polychrome mosaic was taken to Rome by the Popes when archaeological expeditions began, and became the floor of a large room within the Vatican Museums. The amphitheater hosted the games, were gladiators fought for their lives. As the guide keeps narrating, a series of flashbacks allows the viewer to enjoy the historical commemorations nowadays organized by the local population, giving a sense of what Goethe could feel in this place during his Grand Tour: not just a physical landscape, but a landscape of ages. The guide concludes his narration by suggesting that one of the temples in the area, dedicated to an archaic roman deity, might conceal an important secret: the true, secret name of the ancient city of Rome.
