Day 7, 6 on the mountain.
Today, we hiked from Karanga to Barafu camp, around 2.5 miles.
Once we were there, we rested and had some lunch.
we woke at around 2330 and began to prep for our summit attempt. 2 of our group were not summiting at this point, sadly.
Having left in darkness, there was not much recording done. I was well wrapped up, and the cold 🥶 was still apparent but manageable. We stopped for a quick warm drink of ginger tea and continued up to stellar point, which is around 45 minutes from the summit.
I was a bit of an emotional wreck at the top and will admit I shed a tear. It was pretty tough. But as you'll see, Karla did really well with no issues or symptoms other than having walked for 6 days up a hill 😆 she's very strong!
The views were absolutely amazing once the morning clouds parted, difficult to put into words how awesome it was.
We came down after spending a few minutes at the top Heavenlite our guide escorted me back to stellar point.
From here, I'd really have liked crampons as the decent was pretty tough, and we did go down on our bums at points for safer decent.
It was a long decent and looked different in the day, causing some confusion, but we made it back to camp and rested.
From here, we continued down to Mwashi camp, arriving at around 8 pm. we reached high camp a few hours earlier and thought we were done. It was a tough realisation to know we had further to go.
We signed the books and got in our tent.
😴
