10:00 may in fact be the single most hilarious minute of documentary television ever put to film. A joyous black engineer at a remote African work site twerking in exuberant celebration to the incomprehensible warbling sounds of his newly repaired cassette tape deck. I honestly can't even tell if he's doing it in earnest or in jest at the horrible sound quality, but it's absolutely hilarious either way. Superlative. Anyway this documentary is amazing. The video quality is FANTASTIC for being shot in the mid 90s, and it seems to have been uploaded by the project lead design engineer himself, Michel Halbwachs. Amazing work, amazing documentation of history.

“have been destroyed so the survivors wont come back” is the most heartbreaking thing ever💔 i’m glad they did it bc they need to, but i feel sad for those people who lost everything and can never go back and live there :(

They’re actually slowly moving back to the area now. The organ pipes have worked very well. There was a story about this on the BBC awhile back.

One thing I appreciate about the French which the British has not done is to look after the ex colonies after colonization ended. For us in the Anglophone countries we never see great Britain get involved with things such as these.they just left and dispappeared into the sunset.even getting a visa to visit the United kingdom is like passing a law degree.what a pity. Big ups to the french

Judging from a video on here by AlJazeera from 2 years ago they either underestimated the efficency of the pipes to remove co2 or overestimated the accumulation rate at the bottom from the volcano because the fountain is only like a meter high now, nearly all the gas is gone.
@ggurks
Ай бұрын
In 2001 they installed a permanent degassing tube, in 2011 two additional pipes. By 2019 so much gas was gone that the lake reached an essentially steady state, the additional pipes were removed, only one stays there. So it is a successful story
