B L .. So-called "American English" is derived from the various languages (words, pronunciations, slang, etc) of several million immigrants. I don't have a problem with that. Besides, as immigrants continue to flood into the UK, so-called "British English" will go, has gone, the same way. It's now nothing like it was just a century ago.

There are few careers that I would never want to do. The first is the soulless act of working for the IRS, the second is being a field goal kicker for a football team (where one bad kick could give you sleepless nights the rest of your life) and the third is having to be the person that informs parents their child is not coming home. When a situation arises where a child has gone missing a phone call can range from "we've found your daughter" to "We've found your daughter and I'm sorry to inform you that she is dead. In one sentence that takes a few seconds to say you're conveying information to somebody that will in most cases cause a lifetime of profound grief. I couldn't imagine having to be responsible for making that phone call.

signthepetition a lot of parents with dead kids keep their whole room exactly the way they left it. Like their kid's room becomes a shrine to the dead kid. It's kinda twisted but i understand not wanting to let go of whatevers left of them - im a zen buddhist though and we discipline ourselves to love compassionately & unconditionally, but without attachment. It's important to understand the impermanence of all things, the importance of not getting attached to people and things that are inevitably finite & the fact that death is just a part of life and is indeed a new beginning rather than an end. I hope that poor girl's family, friends & loved ones can take some comfort in the fact that Leanne will inevitably be reincarnated into another life. We are luminous spiritual energies, we don't truely die, we just move into a new, useful body when our current body ceases to be useful. Namu amida butsu. 🙇🙏🙇

superior, understated and moving crime documentary; doesn't strike a false note from beginning to end. A terrible warp in one man's personality does incalculable damage to so many innocent lives. It is a reminder that there is both tragedy and mystery at the heart of human experience, and that a terrible calculus of statistically implausible misfortune can become the lot of an unfortunate few. These ordinary citizens of West Yorkshire emerge from the mists of evil as colossi of human dignity; extraordinary. I salute you.

It's too bad that the UK doesn't have the death penalty. You would think that a life sentence would be good enough but unfortunately "life" doesn't actually mean life. It sometimes means 15 years or 10 years or even less so someone that the public thinks is safely stashed away for the rest of his days could, in fact, be living down the block from the victim's family. Also, when prison overcrowding occurs prisons have a nasty little habit of going down the line and releasing a punch of convicts even though some of them are there for the most violent of crimes. And obviously sometimes the bad guy escapes from prison and even though odds are he will eventually be recaptured, he has the opportunity to hurt many more innocent people before that recapture. So the safest thing is to put them down just like you would put down a rabid animal. In fact, rabid animals are less dangerous because they cannot break down doors or open windows to get to a potential victim.... Just MHO.
@MsGothmum

When has the UK ever released lifers because of overcrowding?
@simonw1313
6 жыл бұрын
Maryann Anderson - In cases such as this the perpatrator gets a full life tarrif, ie they will never be released. Apart from that having the death sentence doesn't seem to reduce murder rates, currently the US murder rate is around 6 times that of the UK. Additionally the US murder clear up rate is around 60-70% in the UK it is over 90%. In short thanks for the advice, but since it comes from a country with 6 times our murder rate, where 3-4 times as many murders get away with it, we're really not interested.

In 2005 I saw Chris Meyers while staying at the Ottawa Detox, for no reason he stared at me (I did not know his name). He might have been wearing sunglasses I don't remember. The Murder of Ardeth Wood was a big thing in Ottawa, although I knew little or nothing - other then her death and they were searching for her killer. I then saw him a few weeks later (March 2005) at the Shepard's of Good Hope. He had lost his bed and looked like he wanted to kill me --- I asked him if he wanted the bed and he said no - there was a staff member present and I never saw him again. I was trying to get better - and wanted to leave street life (drugs and alcohol). I decided it was time to try to reconnect with my family - so I went to the bus station on Catherine street in May to goto Montreal. I was experiencing hard insomnia at this point and passed out waiting for my bus. I woke up and right across from me was a picture of a man - that looked like him and it mentioned this was a sketch of Ardeth Woods killer. I ended up calling the police number provided in September. He was arrested 2 weeks later - the Ottawa Police Department never called me --- I was very happy that he was arrested - we needed some closure. Not coincidentally --- I moved to an apartment in 2010 right across from the Bruyere on Bronson and his brother lived right upstairs. He told me that his family liked Chris Meyers more (sick). There were 4 other sexual assaults and no one arrested him (something is wrong there - my opinion). Anonymous calls seem bad - like a potential witness is negative.

LONDONERS SEE US AS DIFFERENT TO THEM, SPEAK DIFFERENT IN A PLACE UP NORTH THAT IS MUCH COLDER. WE VERY PASSIONATE PROUD PEOPLE JUST LIKE TEXANS. THOUGH LEEDS IS NOW A POPULAR BIG CITY ATTRACTING YOUNG PROFESSIONALS AND HIPSTERS, SO THE ACCENT IS BEING DILUTED AS PEOPLE WANT TO SOUND MORE MIDDLE-CLASS AND MORE LONDON. IT IS MORE THE WORKING CLASS AREAS WHERE PEOPLE HAVE STRONGER LOCAL ACCENTS. LEEDS IS A UNIVERSITY CITY AND THERE IS ACTUALLY QUITE A FEW AMERICANS WORKING AND STUDYING HERE. IT DOES HAVE REALLY NICE ARCHITECTURE. LOOK IT UP ON WIKIPEDIA.

Honestly, the shortcut (Houghley Gill) is not the evil place - “an awful place you wouldn’t want to be” that the police made it out to be. I live 1/2 a mile away from it, and in 2000 lived just behind it - It’s just a regular shortcut that many people would use. We never thought of it as scary, sinister or unsafe before John Taylor linked it forever with murder. It’s men who make places like this unsafe, not the places themselves.

The question I always have after watching a documentary like this is: How can one human do these horrible things to another and their loved ones? Some of the perpetrators may have had bad childhoods and/or drug use.... though many of them had normal lives. It's hard to understand how some people become such evil monsters. The victims loved ones have to live with the pain the rest of their lives.... But it must be really hard and sad to be a mother, father, brother and sister of such an evil monster too.

@Zoozooshi Crazy Whether or not any particular individual was wrongfully convicted is entirely irrelevant. And people are still wrongfully convicted, whether ir not you realize it. To assume otherwise is just arrogance. The same exact sort of arrogance that has lead to the executions of so many innocent people. There are innocent people on death row as we speak. If you were one of them, you wouldn't have such a hard time understanding the problem. Your self-centeredness wouldn't be such an obstacle
@gregorsamsa1364
5 жыл бұрын
@Zoozooshi Crazy I'm objectively correct, as you could easily verify if you cared to. That's all that should matter to you here if you have any empathy for all of the innocent people who are, and will be, sitting on death row, especially those who will be executed, as well as their families

Dear God I could not imagine being in those parents shoes. I have a 20 year old daughter and try to imagine if it was her that was lying in those woods... all alone and deceased. I also think about how I would go on without my daughter being on this Earth anymore. I feel like I should also be dead. Because I cannot imagine going on without my daughter not being here anymore. There's no way I could do a show like this or any kind of interview talking about mine murdered child I would be in a straitjacket locked up in a mental institution! I am not judging these parents I am simply saying they are longer than I could ever be after going through something like this😢
