First time I heard this song at age 15 in the mall, it absolutely blew me away! All I could think about the rest of the day was this song. There are a lot of songs of Kim’s that I love more now but I never got tired of Kids In America after all these years.

I was so in love with Kim when I was young. Today I still love her. In another way offcourse, she reminds me of a great time. I remember one of her concerts in my neighbourhood when I was too sick to go...it was a real disaster for me. So sad, I cry a week long...

@@CrisXD - Mi Elstupido... No Hablo Espanol. English Subtitles don't work either when you are speaking double slabobian bunglemuck and don't have the video compliled correctly. Do it in English because the song is in english and then let youtube provide translations into the various large major languages. Common Sense.

I loved 'Kids In America' right from the start and it's still one of my favorite tracks from Kim. Heard it first on Radio Luxembourg. I like the 94 Cappella Remix as well. I can't believe it wasn't even a minor hit. Early to mid 80s was the best period in Kim's career.

When this was released in '81 l was already 20 years old and wasn't really in the target audience, but l loved it the very first time l heard it and knew beyond a doubt that it was going to be a smash hit. Perfect piece of pop-craft, hat's off to Kim and her brother & Dad!

jeden z prezenterow Polskiego Radia, Tomek Beksinski, nazwal kiedys Kim "sympatyczna blondynka" i faktycznie, wydaje sie mila i niepretensjonalna. Kim nie byla specjalnie popularna w Polsce we wczesnych latach 80-tych, ale na szczescie grali jej muzyke w radio i TV

Kim Wilde was very much a British take on Blondie. She was fortunate to have a loyal brother and father to guide her through the 80's pop machine and protect her from its predators. While Kim had a long and productive recording career in the UK, she was pegged as a one-hit-wonder in America. Ironic, considering her breakthough hit, which unfortunately mislead American fans into assuming she was likewise American. Had Kim been promoted as a part of the British New Wave, I think she would've had a better chance at cracking the American record market. Though in retrospect, Blondie was such a New Wave juggernaut it didn't leave much room for competition outside of all-girl groups like The Go-Go's, The Bangles, and Bananarama.

Not her best track in my view but it was memorable all the same and one of the synthpop anthems you cannot ignore. Marty and Ricky were a solid team of songwriters with a distinctive style, it's stunning how much Kim looks like her father.

I was 18 when that song broke and I thought Kim Wilde was THE hottest thing on the planet. As a kid in America just about every band I loved was British back then. The Sex Pistols kicked open the door for that second British Invasion in America and the resulting music that poured out of the UK in the late 70's and 80's was phenomenal. To this day it's still my favorite music.
