What is Kimbap 김밥 (Gimbap)?
Kimbap 김밥 is a Seaweed Rice Roll found commonly in Korea. Gim stands for Seaweed and Bap stands for Rice. Various ingredients are added onto the bed of rice and rolled, then cut into bite size for consumption. The cut cross-section of the Kimbap shows colourful variety of ingredients depending on recipe. There are many variation of Kimbap, some calls for Tuna, while other calls for Bacon.
How to make Kimbap (Gimbap)?
Ingredients Preparation -
- Boil the spinach
- Fry fish ham, crab stick, julienned carrot and omelette
- Add salt and sesami oil to rice and mix
Assembling Kimbap:
- Spread rice evenly and thinly on the seaweed, covering 3/4 of the surface
- Place cooked ingredients on the bed of rice
- Roll the seaweed by tugging the ingredients in with your finger to prevent them from falling forward
- Rub sesame oil on the Kimbap
- Sprinkle Sesame seed to garnish
- Cut the Kimbap into bite sizes
Ingredient List to make 2 rolls of Kimbap:
- 1 Bowl of Cooked short grain rice
- 2 sheets of seaweed
- 1 cup of Spinach (only leaves)
- Half a carrot
- 2 Pieces of Crab Sticks
- 2 Pieces of Korean Fish Ham
- 1 Egg
- 2 Pieces of Pickled Radish (Danmuji)
- 2 Pieces of Braised Burdock
- Salt
- Sesame Oil
- Toasted Sesame seed to garnish
