Everytime I have a problem in my life, I could relate to Helen Burns in this scene. She certainly reminds me of those days where the teachers would punish me because I wasn't aware of my environment or slow to process and absorb everything from the world. I am glad I could relate to such a character even if it is fiction

I am sorry that your teachers were mean to you. But, know that you relate to a very real person. Helen was, according to Bramwell and Emily Brontë, an "exact transcript" of the eldest Brontë sister, Maria.

Helen Burns was better than either Brocklehurst or Scatcherd could ever hope to be.

I don't quite like Simon McBurney in the role of Brocklehurst; I know he is a very good actor - but he is no Brocklehurst...Brocklehurst is meant to be tall and imposing; the only actors I've ever found to come close to that were Ian McCabe (2006) and John Wood (1996). I've seen pcitures of the actual man who inspired Brockehurst, and Wood perhaps comes closest to it, though he does not quite have the "bulk".

You have to watch the 1983 version of Jane Eyre where they screened a perfect depiction of Mr.Brocklehurst.... Robert James is to me the best Mr. Brocklehurst.... Just check this 1983 version of Jane Eyre starring Timothy Dalton and Zelah Clarke....
