Brittany was settled by people from Cornwall and Wales. The Arthurian legends are also prominent in the region, with certain places to be the supposed locations associated with Lancelot du Lac, Merlin, etc. I always believed that certain stories, legends, and oral histories were carried across the channel and incorporated into local histories. Maybe I'm biased, mom mother had some Breton roots, and even though she could speak a little French, she always claimed to be Celtic. I was so confused by that until I found out about the British people that were moved there by the Romans. As well as the people that fled later after the Romans withdrew trade. Since there had always been connections between tribes and families it would be the obvious place to migrate to. And they'd bring new stories with them, who knows, maybe there was a Lancelot type figure from Brittany who traveled to the island, we will never know. But it's so fun to imagine. 😉

Brittany was of utmost importance to the legends of Arthur. Long live Emma of Brittany, the Stewards of Dol, and the House of Rohan!
