The firing pin of the KC Target 22 will NOT contact the extractor star or cylinder upon dry firing.

The pythons were made famous in part due to the fact they have the best triggers of any production revolver.

This was a great review, very informative and thorough. I especially like the hint about removing the grittiness with the Balistol, nice to see it incorporated in your video. Thanks for sharing your experience and thoughts!

Your .22 is out of time in DA. The cylinder should not move after the bolt drops into the notch. Notice your very small jump as you complete the DA. Go watch another video and watch the non existant jump at the end of DA on this .22. Notice you have no jump at the end of your SA pull. I have one also, no jump or movement after the bolt drops. Now that being said, your gun is not unsafe, the Colt design allows the hand to be pushed up slightly as the trigger gets full reward which gets the cylinder to full lock

I love mine! A bit pricey since they are still scarce as hen's teeth, but really worth it because it does shoot very nicely! Great video!

Nice review on Colts 1'st 10 shot 22 LR revolver. I like mine so much I bought 2 of them. When Colt releases the 3" version I'll be adding a 3'rd. In my video you can see how well it shoots the new federal Punch round. What. ammunition does yours like best?

Nice review, except for the comment about Pythons heavier SA trigger. Maybe the new Python along with the other Snake models are not as tuned as the early Pythons and other Snake models, I have a pre1980 Python and that stock trigger is more like Bald instead of Hair. 😊

Great review. Have been looking for a review with a decent comparison between the two, as I'm in the market for one of the two right now. What grip do you have installed on your 617? Looks great.

I also have both the Colt 22 and the Smith 617, and a Colt King Cobra Target .357 My KC target .357 has the best double action trigger, out of the box of any revolver I have ever owned. The KC Target 22 has a terrible double action trigger. I shoot all my revolvers in double action only. Colt rear sights are terrible, front sights are great. I did replace the 617 front sight with a fiber optic sight, no I did not need a gunsmith. My KC 22 trigger has a light/smooth pull until the cylinder has rotated to the proper position, at that point there is a very solid brick wall the takes more than double the pressure to break. My KC .357 is smooth and steady pull all the way thru. All in all the 617 has favorite status to me. That could change if the trigger would be better. I also agree with a previous comment that both the hammer and trigger should be wider.

And it doesn't have that stupid hole in the side plate like the S&W 22!

How about brushing out the firing chambers to get the gunk out?

Yeah, that'll work too. I didn't have a chamber brush with me at the range.

My dad would roll over in his grave. A "target" Colt without a target hammer or a target trigger? WHAT? Makes no sense.

The trigger guard is ugly, and the hammer needs to be wider, especially where you put your thumb to fire in single action. Colt should have done a better job!

I agree that the hammer should be wider. Trigger should be wider as well since it is marketed as a target gun.
