Constantine was the king of Greece from 1913 to 1917 and from 1920 to 1922. He also was the Commander-in-chief of the Hellenic army in the 1897 Greco-Turkish war, the Balkan wars (1912-1913) and the Battle of Kütahya-Eskişehir of the Asia Minor Campaign in the summer of 1921. After the Greek defeat in Asia Minor he was exiled and died four months later in Sicily. He was named Constantine after the Greek majority's wish to fulfill the destiny of retaking Constantinople: "Just like one named Constantine built it, one named Constantine lost it, one named Constantine will retake it."
The specific march got altered and was used as a song dedicated to King Constantine II as well but with different lyrics.
