Beautiful. Every era of King Crimson is magical in a different way.

As much as I love Robert and Adrian’s playing on 80s Crimson, I thought this was really cool and would love to hear more of these stripped down versions KC songs!

Did KC record mostly live, all together in the studio?
@kingcrimson
2 ай бұрын
Dear @ColonelJ1 In the 80's they certainly did, there is very little in the way of outtakes, which I presume were recorded over, or deleted. The only overdubs which might of taken place, would be the solos. Best Alex

@@kingcrimsonI can't imagine there were many overdubs in the 70s either. The way they fed off each other. Maybe the vocals and an occasional solo. Possibly a couple tracks off of "Red" were overdubbed. I'm just guessing, but 70-73 definitely has that incredible live power. The kind that's lost when bands overdub. I'll take an imperfection here and there to get that live sound. That energy is worth the extra time and trouble. Though only the best can really make it work.

Dear @@scottdorfler2551 In the 1972/74, era, The basic backings were always recorded first, and the best of the drum takes were used, but then the rest was potentially overdubbed. Robert certainly recorded his parts after the bass and drums were laid down, and on the multi-tracks there may have been an alternate take, which didn't get used. The Mellotrons were also added later, as was David's Violin. These are all available on the 50th Anniversary of Lark's Tongues In Aspic. Available here burningshed.com/king-crimson_larks-tongues-in-aspic_2cd_2blu-ray?filter_name=king%20crimson&filter_sub_category=true. Best Alex (Stormy)

That was very interesting! Not sure if any of Adrian's parts were in this mix or not. Unless Robert is only playing keys here and Adrian is playing the guitar. Still, I love these versions where the layers are stripped away to expose some of the underworkings within the production of their songs.

This I think is a lesser form from the original release. The front bit is notable to hear the delicate keyboard work, very nice, the power of this piece is its beat, which is totally swallowed up here to poor effect. IMHO. It's like hearing the music when one's head is under a pillow. Seems like there may have been a better way to give the keys the justice they deserve.
