One of the weirdest passages of scripture you will ever see is this one. 1 Peter 5:13 She who is in Babylon, chosen together with you, sends you her greetings, and so does my son Mark. It seems that Peter had referred to a woman who was in Babylon where Mark his spiritual son was. The problem is that when this letter was written Babylon was no longer in existence. So what is this “Babylon” Peter is speaking about? She is Jerusalem in her last days. She has become a prostitute by separating herself from the covenant she had with God and aligned herself with Rome. This is how you understand this passage. Revelation 17:3-5 Then the angel carried me away in the Spirit into a wilderness. There I saw a woman sitting on a scarlet beast that was covered with blasphemous names and had seven heads and ten horns. The woman was dressed in purple and scarlet, and was glittering with gold, precious stones and pearls. She held a golden cup in her hand, filled with abominable things and the filth of her adulteries. The name written on her forehead was a mystery: babylon the great the mother of prostitutes and of the abominations of the earth. Other than Babylon, Jerusalem in her last days was also called by these names. Revelation 11:8 Their bodies will lie in the public square of the great city-which is figuratively called Sodom and Egypt-where also their Lord was crucified. Notice Jesus was not crucified in Sodom or Egypt but just outside the city walls of Jerusalem. Jerusalem in her last days had become the evil nation her enemies were. She had abandoned her husband God and had became drunk with the old wine and rejecting the new wine of the new covenant, the Spirit. Jerusalem was also called Mount Sinai in her last days. Galatians 4:25 Now Hagar stands for Mount Sinai in Arabia and corresponds to the present city of Jerusalem, because she is in slavery with her children. Jerusalem was also called “creation”. Romans 8:18-21 For the creation waits in eager expectation for the children of God to be revealed. For the creation was subjected to frustration, not by its own choice, but by the will of the one who subjected it, in hope that the creation itself will be liberated from its bondage to decay and brought into the freedom and glory of the children of God. You will see the link here. Galatians 4:25 Now Hagar stands for Mount Sinai in Arabia and corresponds to the present city of Jerusalem, because she is in slavery with her children. The harlot is replaced by the new Jerusalem. This will really help you understand the end days from the perspective of fulfilled eschatology.
