Seeking more excitement, he requested sea duty and on July 2, 1943, was assigned to Marine Aircraft Group 25 and the South Pacific Combat Air Transport Command (SCAT), supporting the logistics of operations in the South Pacific Theater. On October 1, 1943, Nixon was promoted to lieutenant.

Agreed, American tragedy, in wich crazy religious beliefs were strongly present. They thought that they were above common secular laws, and were mistaken, like they always are. This side of the mess has been effectively silenced, for obvious reasons.

Very interesting talk. However, I was dismayed that, at least for the Watergate portion, there was no mention to the revelations that surfaced in Shane O'Sullivan's superb "Dirty Tricks: Nixon, Watergate, and the C.I.A.". As well, I am a big fan of the views of preeminent Watergate era lawyer, Daniel Sheehan, who was front and center throughout the case. His perspectives which are easily accessible here on You Tube, through many hours of his university course lectures. In these lectures he lays out a completely unique set of conclusions about what fueled Watergate and why Nixon's involvement was much deeper than historians have admitted. I am a fan of Mr. Dobbs' superb "One minute to midnight". I look forward to reading this new book at some point.

This is a very superficial discussion about the tragedy underlying Nixon's presidency - which is a surprise given the link to The Washington Post and the potential access to this newspaper archive. Nixon's lamentable sabotage of the Vietnam peace negotiations during the 1968 presidential campaign prolonged the war by over 4 years causing the deaths of so many innocent lives is the tragedy of which Nixon was the architect. Anthony Summers book - "The Arrogance of Power" provides a more comprehensive review of this period.

I do not think that President Nixon acted like a king or the he himself thought that he was a king and I don't think anybody else thought the same way you do the people voted him twice in large numbers for president. so I think the people disagree with you.
