Transcript: This is a story about a man named Allan Quatermain, an experienced hunter and trader who meets with Sir Henry Curtis and Captain John Good. Sir Henry is looking for his brother, George, or Neville, of whom Quatermain was the last man that saw him before his disappearance. Quatermain explains to Sir Henry that Neville was attempting to find King Solomon's Mines, a mythical cave in Africa that contains great riches of diamonds, and has since received a hand drawn map of the location of the mines. Quatermain concludes that Neville is still out there, searching for King Solomon’s Mines.
Quatermain agrees to travel with Sir Henry and Captain John under certain conditions. After bringing along some native guides, including the peculiar Umbopa, they begin their journey toward the mountains.
The men find themselves out of water and are near death when they discover a small pool of water and a patch of watermelon. After drinking and eating, they see the two mountains that contain King Solomon’s mines and so they head toward them.
As they climb the mountain, the temperature gets colder. They find a nearby cave and discover the remains of Jose Da Silvetre, a previous explorer who drafted the map that is in Quatermain’s possession.
They find food and make their way down the mountain toward some woods, traveling along a nicely built road. They meet a group of natives, the Kukuanas, who attack them. However, Quatermain tricks them into thinking that they are gods and the men are escorted to the Kukuanas’ village.
They meet King Twala, a large man who is ruthless, and Quatermain demonstrates their powers using their guns. An old woman named Gagool warns the people that Quatermain and his friends are trouble, which makes King Twala suspicious.
In private, Umbopa reveals that he is the rightful king, whose real name is Ignosi, who had to flee the Kukuanas with his mother as a child. He tries to get local support from the local chiefs, but must prove that he is really the long lost King.
Captain Good looks in his almanac and sees that an eclipse will occur and so he offers the lunar event as a sign: if they can block out the sun, the chiefs will help them fight Twala.
King Twala holds the annual festival where people who are suspected of witchcraft are killed at random. He kills hundreds of people and after threatening to kill Ignosi and an innocent girl named Foulata, Quatermain and the group fight back, as the eclipse occurs just in time.
Because of the eclipse, the chiefs are convinced that Ignosi is the king and so they combine their limited forces. They succeed on the battlefield by distracting Twala's main forces with a small group of men and flanking him on the sides with the rest of the army. They send Twala's men running and corner Twala in the city. Sir Henry is challenged to a duel by Twala and after a quick struggle, Sir Henry cuts off Twala's head, leaving Ignosi as the rightful king.
The men recover with the help of Foulata, who takes especially good care of Captain Good.
As promised, Ignosi allows the men to take riches from the mountain caves and forces Gagool, the witch, to lead them. They make their way through the mountains and enter a cave where the old kings are buried. Gagool points out the secret door to Solomon's treasure chamber and they enter. They discover a room full of chests of gold and diamonds. However, as they are distracted, Gagool tries to escape by stabbing Foulata and closing the secret door. Foulata dies from her wounds, Gagool is smashed by the door, and the men are trapped in the treasure chamber awaiting death.
Hope is nearly loss as their food and water supply is gone. Despite that, Quatermain fills his pockets with diamonds. Eventually, they discover a secret staircase that leads them through a series of tunnels and back outside. They celebrate, but forget how they escaped and cannot reenter the cave.
Before they head home, Ignosi says goodbye and warns them to not send treasure hunters in the future.
On the way back, Quatermain discovers a hut in the middle of nowhere and they meet Neville, Sir Henry's lost brother.
In the end, they return to civilization and become wealthy from selling the diamonds that Quatermain brought back.
