Oh the memories! I've ridden all those former rides. I remember that lake where they did shows. They dried the lake and put The Anaconda on top back in '92. Anyway, thanks for the memories. I'll NEVER forget The Rebel Yell. I was 9 when I rode it the first time and was TERRIFIED. I rode The King Cobra with friends back in '80 and was scared of that too LOL! Be blessed.

I remember that they used to have water skiers performing tricks in the lake, before it became the water park and how you could buy handfuls of food to feed the Koy fish.

I miss when Hanna Barbara characters were the main theme of the park. My dad took me in the late 90s and used to trick me as a kid to get on the log flume. I would always end up soaked.

@Sythe5665 ,This is actually the log flume portion of the Haunted River. The Haunted River was a boat ride, kind of like Pirates of the Caribbean and had a mixture of monster and haunted pirate elements. Once you reached the end you were taken up a log flume incline in total darkness that seemed to last forever. You never knew when you would go over the peak. Smurf Mountain was built into the mountain as well, to the far left of the Haunted River ride, and was formerly the Land of Dooz ride.

Thanks for posting. I took my first trip there in the late 70's or early 1980.

I was just watching this again and realized that the Haunted River is in it. So if this was filmed in the 70's, it was just barely in the 70's because the Lost World mountain didn't open until 1979. It contained the Haunted River, the Land of the Dooz and the Time Machine, originally.

Can't believe it's been almost 40 years since my first visit to the "Great big land of Make Believe at Kings Dominion". First visit was 1974, when I was 5. First rode the Rebel Yell at 7, in 1976. I'll have to get out there in 2014 for the 40th anniversary.

Likely 1979. The King Cobra did not open until 1978 and it was removed because of high maintenance costs and low capacity, not because of an accident. The Lost World did not open until the 1979 season. Indeed the ride that opened as Journey to Atlantis did become the Haunted River after one season. None of Kings Dominion's rollercoasters were relocated to Carowinds.

So did all three of the PTC racing coasters at Kings island/Dominion and Carowinds all have the same red, white and blue color scheme when opening?

That's right! Working off the old memory banks. Well, still good to see there are some folks out there keeping the history straight.

would have loved to seen it in it's prime, now its just run of the mill. Hope they do something cool with the mountain once they take down Volcano. Becool if they put a dark ride back in make something similar to Disney's Escape Everest or Matterhorn Mountain

@EMJAYWLZ If this is in the 70's, then it was the "Lost River". It didn't become the "Haunted River" until 1981 or 82.

If these were taken in the 70s, it was 1979 as that's when the mountain where Voyage to Atlantis was built and opened.
