Poor thing was terrified. I'm really tired of people treating animals intended to be pets as disposable commodities. We shouldn't even treat our food animals this way. I'm not going to try to push some completely vegan stereotype on the situation because I know what's likely that humans will probably always eat some kind of animal even if it ends up simply being insects. And feeling that we're still eating another another living thing if it's just plants. That's the way life is. Anyway we don't have to be cruel about any of our interactions with any living thing. I think we should give the most respect to all the life out there because without each other we would all die. If you're going to welcome something into your life to be part of your family or you are somebody that deals as an intermediary for this then you should be held to the utmost High responsibility for their treatment and ultimate well-being just as if they were human children. I know it's a lot to ask because we can barely get that right.

It all depends on the species and the owner. You can't blame the majority of exotic pet owners who have the proper wildlife permits and actually learn about their prospective pet beforehand to properly enclose and care for them, for the actions of the few who do stupid crap like releasing goldfish/snakeheads into local waterways, or try to raise a tiger in a small room in an apartment.... It's why in my and increasingly more other states burmese pythons are now illegal... Too many people ignoring the fact they can grow to be 20 plus feet long and kill you if not properly handled... When I worked in the pet industry I had a multitude of exotic pets.... Not because I bought them, but because i rescued them from idiots... I was able to rehouse some, but I knew what questions to ask to weed out people that couldn't properly care for them... The problem in the industry is too many pet stores employ people to sell, not ask a series of questions leading to an animal being a good fit for the person and proper care.. Most times what you see is fill out this permit form, here is your barely adequate size cage and it's food and accessories, no questions asked, have a nice day....

They are a relative of raccoons, sometimes called ring tails, or ring tailed cats, or miners cat. Miners would sometimes have them for pets. They are native to the American southwest and Mexico, so they aren't an invasive species in those areas. Although they are cute, they don't make good pets, wild animals seldom do.
@Snargfargle
Күн бұрын
No, you are talking about the ringtail, which is a separate member of the racoon family. Ringtails are a desert-scrub inhabitant that can be found throughout most of the southwestern US. The kinkajou is a related rain forest animal that ranges from southern Mexico to Brazil, which is why the one in Washington was likely either an escaped pet or came in on a truck from southern Mexico.
