A good review, definitely a show more people should watch. I disagree with your criticism of the english dub though. I found that it suited the characters and the dialogue quite well, the voice actors did a good job.

***** yea it stung when he condemned people to watch it in Japanese because I've seen it in English and it is very much to my liking, still has that same air of mystery to it with every episode, I mean who doesn't know that the main character was actually called Sakura and everyone teased her by calling her Nekura?

I've actually just watched footage of it with the dub, and it sounds fine, I don't know why he's so against watching it that way. He loved the Monster dub, so this was a bit surprising.

Ever since I watched this series, I've been heavily disappointed in brand new animes that recently came out. This anime, at least to me, is so different compared to most that I've watched, I've watch MOST anime. I just wish that Kino's Journey would be adapted once more since there is plenty of character development in light novels. I've given alot of new anime releases a shot but this is the first time I've really rewatched it over and over again. Definitely a rare gem. Thank you for reading and great review to a series that needed a lot more attention. =)

Kino's Journeys is definitely one of my top favorite animes. It was one of two series I randomly bought on a whim a few years ago in Bestbuy simply because they were complete series for like $15 each or so and it turned out to be one of the best purchases I have ever made. The other series in that purchase was "Jing: King of Bandits"... not quite as good a purchase.

I hear what you're saying about running through the series and missing out on certain things, possibly misunderstanding the characters or meaning, but I don't think I had that problem. I finished it in three days and it has easily become one of my favorite anime ever! Right after I finished it I was even tempted to watch it all the way through again (first time I ever wanted to do that). I also took note of and analyzed each episode (I do that for almost every anime I watch) and think I got a lot from it. I didn't skip the intro either. Loved it. Personally, I give it a 10/10. (Like you said) I think it was episode 4 or 5:I already knew it would have to be in my top 10. I have to rethink mine, but it might even run close to the top 5! The writing in this series was Phenomenal. I wanted it all to last forever lol

BobSamurai Anime Reviews Oh and almost forgot to say. I think the last tv ep of Kino's Journey could be a prequel before ep 1 or 0. After *spoilers* happens on ep 13 is the reason why Kino stays 3 days and two nights in each country she stays in. Plus after Kino left the town, it shows some recaps of Kino's traveling on previous ep. The tent scene in the end of the last tv ep could be proven more since the tent setting look similar to ep 1 or exactly the same. And I guess it's important because of how Kino is very strict about her limited time in each country she stays in.

I saw it in English, up until I saw episode 0 and the "Movies", which aren't in English. And I fount it strange in JP, because there was annotations on the top saying stuff like "Kino refers to herself in both I for boy and I and for girl" so was Kino saying that she is gender neutral.

I am going through the show right now, 4 episodes left. Kino does indeed have a personality, she does have traits and quirks that define her. To claim she is totally blank, or totally empty, is to lie on the Internet. Don't tell lies on the Internet, kids. Also, avoid the Bluray. The way it was authored, no player can extract the 23.967p, so you get NTSC stutter. Get the DVD instead. Nothing whatsoever wrong with the dub, you're drunk.
