Kirsten Boggs & Zornitza Stark - Acute Care Genomics: Rapid Rare Disease Diagnosis on a National Scale
Professor Zornitza Stark is a clinician-researcher passionate about integrating genomics into healthcare, particularly as a first-tier test for children with rare disease. She works as a clinical geneticist at the Victorian Clinical Genetics Services in Melbourne, and as a research fellow with Australian Genomics. For the past 4 years, she has led the Acute Care Genomics program, which has provided ultra-rapid genomic testing to 450 critically ill babies and children with rare disease from around Australia.
Kirsten Boggs is a professionally trained and certified Senior Genetic Counsellor, and has worked as part of the NHMRC funded Australian Genomics initiative since 2016. For the past 4 years, Kirsten has worked as a Genetic Counsellor with the MRFF funded Acute Care project. This project looked at the feasibility and implementation of Ultra Rapid Genomic Sequencing in critically unwell children. Kirsten has been involved in the consent process and genetic counselling for over one hundred families across the Sydney Children's Hospital Network.
