One of Echigo-Tsumari Art Triennale Project Highlights - the JR Iiyama Line Art Project, aims to connect cities and countryside, bringing art to the train stations and turning them into places for interactions. Picture book author Jimmy Liao was invited to participate in the project, to permanently build artworks around the the Doichi Station and the Echigo-Mizusawa Station. His artworks, named “Kiss & Goodbye”, were derived from his latest picture book “Kiss & Goodbye” that he specially created for the Triennale. The design of his artworks, a train-shaped warehouse and a dog-shaped warehouse, was inspired by the distinctive structure of the Echigo-Tsumari region - the Kamaboko warehouses. His team has invited local residents to paint the outer walls together. Inside the warehouses are exhibitions using various forms including installations, paintings, animation and music, to convey the message from his picture book. This animation is played at the Doichi Station. It is hoped that visitors to the artworks will feel inspired to keep moving forward in life, like the train.
