alot of ass wipes wont even put the proper tension on the band... question ... if my hood is making a squeaky sound.. what would be the problem ? i aligned the pully and gave it better tension .. and brought the pully in tighter.. the noise is now less noisy but still makes a sound ..help!?

Very good video, nice repair. I like that you checked for alignment of the shaft (a lot of guys don't do that, and the bearings can fail prematurely). I always put a few shots of grease in those type bearings as well, unless of course they are sealed type bearings. I was always lead to believe that they come dry in the box because grease could seep out during shipment, etc. Either way it couldn't hurt to shoot some grease in them.

Nice easy job Dave, you got some good karma going on there! My thoughts are don't grease new bearings because they already have the proper amount of grease from the factory, which is not much. But I suffer from chronic over greaser syndrome (COGS) and I can't believe I'm saying no grease. I guess the meetings really are helping..lol

The bearings should be greased on a routine schedule. Depending how fast and load it takes is how you will need to regrease. I would run some grease lines out to where they can be reached without pulling the hood. Grease while its running id say. Those type bearing no more than 2 shots every lube cycle.

I did a exhaust fan rebuilt today. Could not get bottom bearing off the shaft it's a greasy restaurant. What would you use to loose the bottom bearing ? The shaft is very long I came across auto bearing tools max they got is 8-1/2".Any thick will be much appreciated !

Sometimes you have to cut them off with a grinder with a cutting wheel on it. Be careful or find a long puller.

Yes, of course you grease new bearings. Some may come from the factory already packed with grease, but I've seen many that have not. They come dry. Pump some in until you see it begin to squeeze out. Too tight of a belt will also cause premature bearing wear in the fan bearing and also the motor bearing. It's tough with a small belt because there is very little stretch. Regarding PMs, I've been involved in maintenance programs with large companies that decided that exhaust fans are cheaper to maintain 'run to fail'.. so they get greased when new bearings are installed, but never again until the next set of bearing is installed. They believe it's cheaper in the long run. I can't argue with that..

The problem wither to grease the new bearing block comes down to the bearings themselves. Unless the bearing has a hole thought the race and was designed to be greased. Most are not and if you will take the old one apart you will see clearly see what I'm talking about. The ideal behind a bearing that could be greased need old grease flushed out and replace with new grease. I've seen a lot of electric motors in the old days filled with grease because when they were overhauled in the motor shops and they installed shielded non grease bearings. Sorry to be long winded.

You can not align pulleys by levelling them. A straight edge is the tool to use as the fan housing may not be level and yes you DO have to add grease to new bearings as the manufacturers have a few bad reasons to not add enough. Sales of new bearings and cost of grease. You can buy bearings only that fit into the old cast housings. Available many places. Generally you clean the shaft and oil it to get the pulley off. Sorry to be critical of a good tech but just trying to add some helpful info.
