In case anyone was wondering, the place closed in 2014, the owner reported that although the decor looks nicer, the business didn't improve much after a small increase when the episode aired. The owner said the location and more restaurants opening in the area was the reason for shutting down. From some Yelp reviews, all I can say is they had some regulars but overall they were a pretty mid place even afterwards. Also a slightly interesting fact, Wasem didn't leave the place, I saw a review mentioning that he made excellent Shawarmas.

People romantiizing the frankly abusive situation these kids were in is scary. "They love him" He made them love in using fear, and control. You can't say they actually love him until you ask them when they are finally free and safe. If they forgive him and he apologizes that's love. If they are still under his control that's not love.

this is actually really sad. they can't move out because they don't have any money, they don't have any money because they don't get paid, and they can't find another job because they're forced to work at the restaurant in order to not pay rent to live in the family home. what a vicious cycle created by selfish parents
@Cheepchipsable
2 жыл бұрын
It's because that's the way the father grew up, and would have been the culture of his time. You would never question that you wouldn't work in the family business, and it was probably never discussed before. Family is expected to make sacrifices for family. I wouldn't be too hard on the old fart. You see how the mother isn't around?

First off, all of you sound like your parents have never struggled to take care of you and you have never struggled, you can clearly tell that both parent and children don't have the financial capability to take care of themselves, the kids can move on and get another job if they wanted to but they feel like they would be abandoning their parents if they didn't help, so at the end of the day, its the parents and kids fault, the kids have to express their feeling to their parents and the parents need to let their kids be free

I grew up around families like that and guys like that who owned restaurants… They don’t change, unfortunately. They come from generations of the same antiquated ideas of “parenting” and family structure and culture within.. it’s instilled in them from a young age and they live their whole lives like it. And their children suffer in that disfunction until their businesses shut down and their children either break away THEN, separating themselves completely from their families never to go back and are pretty much shunned, or they end up really bad off mentally, emotionally, and physically.. completely broken in various ways.

It is. There's a disclaimer at the very end that only flashes for a few frames that states: "The diners featured in this program were aware that they were participating in an episode of Kitchen Nightmares." It's pretty obvious. I've never heard customers act and behave they way they do on this show. Even in the ones with questionable food. On the sets there are producers who walk around and prod the customers to say things a certain way so they can get coverage (many different reactions so they have content to piece together like a puzzle during editing. Speaking of which... "The footage shot in this program has been edited such that in places it is shown in a different time sequence than actually shot." In other words, a lot of what you see is merely an exaggeration of what actually happened, with music, sound effects and narration thrown in for dramatic effect. he UK version was preferable since it didn't add in all of these extra contrivances, but Americans loved this version all the same.
