@Flyredair
4 жыл бұрын
Amen! I’ve also found “blooming” your freshly ground spices in a smidge of hot oil really amplifies the flavor as well. When I’m browning my meat for recipes, I make a well and use the meat oils or add some to the hot pan. Dump the spices in that oil and stir around for a couple of seconds to activate the oils inside those spices. Game Changer! And I love your rice grinder cleaning method. I’ve always used bread but stopped when I started Keto. Rice is genius! Thanks and keep up the great informative work on your channel and site 👍🏼

Yep, I mention this in either the pinned comment or in the description. You can bloom dry (toasting them) or in oil. Either unloads a big bucket of flavor.

In Germany, almost everyone had a coffee grinder...a hand ground one and it was often the job of children to grind. Hard work. Then came the 70's and electric ones were the big boom! I still use mine strictly for spices. It's perfect. Back then they were made to last. In fact, many companies simply repurposed them for spices after the whole coffee capsules/pads became popular. Mine is rather much like yours but that 70's orange LOL!

Three extra things I didn't mention in the video: You can really unleash a bunch of extra flavor by briefly toasting them in a pan before grinding them, as I show in the compound butter video: kzitem.info/news/bejne/z3x7yIurmoCIfXY Also the reasons I pour into the lid of the spice grinder is because it has more space in it than the grinder bowl and because if I'm weighing spices I can just put the lid on a digital scale, tare it, then get an accurate measurement on my weights. If you order any cable clamps direct from the manufacturer (link in description) and there is an option to enter comments, please tell them that you found out about the cable clamps on the SeriousKeto KZitem channel. They don't have an affiliate marketing program, but perhaps if they find out I'm sending business their way, we can get some sort of coupon code from them.

Great tutorial... one note: part of the reason why the ground spices smell so good is due to the heat generated by the blades. To avoid that use a bur grinder that will grind at lower speed. Using a bur grinder will allow the delicate VOCs in the spices to remain and transfer to what ever you are cooking them with.

Tip about smelling stuff: if you are somewhere that you're smelling different items consecutively, smell your forearm in between what ever scents you are smelling. This could be coffees, potpourri, candles, spices, etc. Smelling your arm (it is generally the easiest part of your body to bring to your nose to smell) helps remove whatever scent you just smelled and neutralizes it before smelling the next thing. This way, when you go to smell the next item, your nose isn't confusing it with lingering smells of the last scent. I learned this trick years ago at a craft show potpourri booth and it works like a charm. My friends still laugh when I do it, but I tease them back when they buy a candle or something and then complain it doesn't smell like they remembered it smelling in the store. Ha!

I tried grinding achiote (annatto) in a manual pepper grinder, and the grinder couldn't handle it. Achiote is very hard and waxy. Have you had a problem with grinding any spices in your grinder?
@SeriousKeto
4 жыл бұрын
I have not had any problems with my Krups grinder and I have used annatto in it (that reminds me, I should make puerco bebil one of these days). Annatto seeds are almost like grinding pebbles, and as such they bounce around the grinder jar a lot if you're just using a small quantity. Because of their propensity to color things red, that rice cleaning hack works very well after making your achiote.
