Dan, I did not rib stitch anything. I alway tell people to rib stitch if they feel like they should. The best part about oratex, I can rib stitch any time I feel a need or see a need because its not painted.

Really enjoy your videos. What engine does your friends ski kitfox have. Sounded pretty healthy like a lycoming.

I'm wondering what paint and color you used on the cowl to match the fabric so well?
@KitfoxPilot

David I took my oratex to my friends body shop and he computer matched and it came out to match dodge silver. I bought 2k automotive paint and painted it then clear coated it on a sample piece. Color was good but too much shine so I got the semi gloss clear coat and it was perfect. Better than I thought I'd ever get it to match. Harlan

Thanks! Its really nice. Probably the best match of non-fabric to fabric parts I've seen. @@KitfoxPilot

Hi Harlan good nite. Please could share with me how you did the corners of the Horizontal Stabilizer and Elevator. I noticed from your video that you made a round cut in the corner but it is not clear. Many thanks

Hi. Those corners are the hardest on the whole project. Oratex won't stretch with out heat and if you put too hard while heating it will distort the finish. So heat and extra hands are preferred most on the corners. The only cut I see on the video was where I got a big wrinkle on the first pass and I cut it off so the second over lap would be smooth. Really you just heat and pull and keep heating the wrinkles as you pull but you need to practice alot before you do the elevator and rudder areas. Sorry I know its not much help. Harlan

Good to know how strong the glue is.

I was a little surprised, even after I had tested with small pieces. It wants to stay on.

That’s too bad, Harlan. I guess you subconsciously wanted more covering practice! 😆 You are doing a nice job! Almost there!

The other day when I was doing the first side of my vertical stab I had to pull it off. I got it done, but it left me a little traumatized...that oratex glue is something else!! Looking good by the way.

Harlan - I've just got lots of questions, today: did you rib stitch the tailfeathers? Thanks, again!
@DanYocum
Жыл бұрын
I talked to Brandon at KF a couple weeks ago - they don't stitch the ribs on the tailfeathers and they use Stits. Oratex is super sticky so I don't think we're going to have a problem.
