Good morning Robbie! Yesterday early evening, I was taking my hummingbird feeders down for the night. I have to do this because we have a nasty bear who will destroy all my bird feeders. Anyway, as I was walking down my steps, I heard the wonderful sound of the buzz coming to the feeder I was carrying! At least 1. So at least the migrating ones are coming through. I'm in mid to north Western PA and I'm sooo happy they are here. Thank you Robbie! God bless you and your family!

You know, I live NW PA, about 30 minutes from the NY border, and I could have sworn I heard one buzz by me the other day, so I put my feeders out yesterday, but didn’t get any. My neighbor always told me that they come May 6th, he was an older man who loved to feed them and the orioles. I have bears too, they come right up on my porch, because there is a restaurant dumpster about fifty feet away. They can’t get into the dumpster, anymore, the forestry finally made them put an electric fence up a few years back, it used to be sort of a tourist attraction in our tiny town.

Interesting. I once dumped some clay litter outside and it turned hard as a rock. Does it alter the overall soil pH a lot? I use pine pellet litter for my cats, which I then compost after it gets all the added nitrogen from the cats. 😸 But I will get a bag of the clay litter for using in plant soil (I have some cuttings I want to propagate) and give it a try. OK, I just looked up the brand you have on Walmart's site and it's non-clumping. That makes the big difference. The one that turned to a pile of rock on me was the clumping kind.

I bought some kitty litter, but I keep forgetting to use it. I am glad you mentioned it for houseplants, and I will be doing that. Three years ago, we had knats during the winter, and I finally figured out that they were coming from one of my houseplants. I always set them outside during the summer. I took it outside and repotted it, and that took care of the awful issue lol. ❤😊😊❤

This makes perfect sense to me. I've always wondered why gardeners don't want small gravel or tiny rocks in there pots because nature has them everywhere and plants thrive in them....look at all the weeds growing in the "rocked" soil. Wouldn't they serve the same purpose the kitty litter does?

Kitty litter is mined from the earth and is clay that absorbs and hold water. I think rocks aren't able to get much water in them and aren't as porous, but they do have minerals so maybe that helps.

Thanks for the kitty litter ideas. About outdoor and indoor plants. Yes those darn flies or gnats are a nuisance. My hubby planted a bunch of flower bulbs and seeds. The bulbs are outside in planters. They come back year after year. Pretty red flowers. Hummingbirds are supposed to love them ❤ we will let you know the name of them. There on the cardboard it came with the packs of flower bulbs. But the squirrels and some birds were getting into them. We ordered some tulle. 😊 should be in a few days. Hubby had covered with Dollartree black wire waste baskets for now . Another one of your ideas 💡 Thanks dear friend Robbie and Gary and zoe ❤️ ❤❤.

Hi Robbie, I'm zone 5 in Massachusetts. I'll look for the kitty litter as the projected weather for this summer is hot! I'm getting my garden setup right now. Hummingbirds will be here this week or next week. I have my soil from last year getting ready to add some wood ash, compost dirt from over the winter. Too bad we cannot add photos of our gardens. I plant my veggies in pots. When they get too much sun or not enough sun I just move them. 🪴

Hi Robbie, Can I mulch with Kitty Litter for my garden planters that dry out quickly? I have problems with this in a couple of my Green Stalks. I water and a few hours later they are dry as a bone. I was thinking that the Kitty Litter might help combat this in our horribly hot Texas summers. I will try it this year and see.

I read that some kitty litter are bad for the environment because its doesn't compost down. Some kitty litter lets out harmful gas into air, if its not all natural litter. I'm wondering why we still you the stuff if litter is already at its final stages so braking down clay and or stuff that make up the litter won't compost anymore. Even some will hardened over time as its get wet or any moisture in the air will make litter hardened over times. As long as its a natural litter like wood pellets and other metals. Just my two senses worth. Thanks for the video.

Wow! I'm so glad this video popped up in my suggested list. Is the clay cat litter you are using the regular clay one or the lightweight one? It appears they are actually Bentonite granules and Zeolite respectively. Both are very useful for pots and the garden. Thanks for the video that led to me researching these products. Way cheaper to buy cat litter over the garden center equivalents. Cheers!

FYI: Well, went to Walmart and they only had FRESH SCENT not UNSCENTED same brand but not in Red bag, it was Yellow/Gold. Same price 20lbs. But didn’t buy. Will try and check other Walmarts and Target next. I did get at a feed store a 70lb bag, 7.5 cu ft of pine shavings used for animal bedding at $18, and will use as mulch. Same as nurseries use to pack bare root plants in. HOPEFULLY this will help your readers.
