Early this year, the King Dome - a 75,000 seating capacity megastructure, the biggest indoor arena in the world - began to shine brightly with hundreds of thousands of LED lights embedded on its massive crystal-like glass walls.
Construction of the King Dome in Davao City is well underway and is expected to be completed for a planned inauguration in 2022. It is being built by the religious organization Kingdom of Jesus Christ (KJC) of Pastor Apollo Quiboloy.
The KJC King Dome is a multipurpose indoor arena currently under construction in Davao City, located along the Philippine-Japan Friendship Highway in Buhangin District, adjacent to the city’s Francisco Bangoy International Airport.
The King Dome is inside the 18-hectare KJC compound, which, in turn, is part of the 26-hectare Kingdom Global City Tourism Enterprise Zone (TEZ), which has been designated as such by the Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise Zone Authority (TIEZA).
Besides being used for worship services, the King Dome is also expected to be the venue for multi-purpose activities and events such as concerts, international gatherings and sports events, and the like. The facility will host a cube scoreboard.
This megastructure will be part of a mixed-used development. The complex will house a condominium, a hotel, a museum, a hangar, a water park, a commercial center, and an administration complex.
The King Dome itself was estimated to cost ₱6.025 billion when it was first planned in 2012. However, that price tag has since ballooned to P10 billion, and now, to over P13 billion because of delays and other factors.
