I have the Crescent set (fits perfectly in the Milwaukee 14 inch pouch in the 48-22-8183 set). I recently bought the Sata tap wrench set, model ST50402 (also made by Apex), and the exact same as the more expensive Gearwrench set. It accepts the Crescent bits for added versatility.

Thanks buddy 👍👍 I will likely end up getting it. I’m sure Klein was smart enough to only make it work with their own stuff. I knew the Cresent wouldn’t likely work, but it was worth the $6 to try the Gearwrench.

I had the crescent set. Found myself needing the 3/8 adapter a lot due to needing to use some torx sockets. Then I found out the adapter socket is deeply flawed, it inserts into the ratchet from the rear so it pops right out if you apply any pressure while fastening. Really wanted that to be my main ratchet but it was a deal breaker.

Pass-through are very handy for specific jobs, although perhaps not as unique now that ratcheting spanners are available. The Crescent wrench set will fit quite nicely in a Veto parts bag, unless you wanted to go all the way and get a plastic case and some Shadow Foam and cut it all in. I have Crescent and Gearwrench 3/8 pass through and they are cross compatible. For the UK they are also compatible with the Halfords own brand of pass-through sockets. Neither are compatible with the system from Bahco that I have. I would love to pick up the Klein KNECT and ratcheting 11 in 1, but they aren't available in the UK at the moment.

Ratcheting spanners have been around since the dawn of time. I promise you if you go digging around your grandpas old tool box, you will find at least 1 old 2 piece stamped steel riveted handle ratcheting spanner. Some tips for ratcheting spanners. Never buy non locking flex handle ratcheting spanners. Applying any force at an off camber angle (its intended purpose) will cause the spinning action to pivot sideways off the head of the fastener. This is true for any size fastener head under 12mm. Locking flex heads do not do that. (Now that I think about it, non locking flex ratchets do the same thing on smaller fasteners.). Reversible ratcheting spanners are the preferred choice over non reversible, Except when space is limited. The reversible style has an offset on the closed end and the non reversible closed end is straight inline with the body of the spanner and the closed end profile is a bit thinner on the non ratcheting. It’s just annoying to be wrenching in a tight spot always having to stare at the wrench to figure out which way is forward or reverse. That little reverse lever is detrimental to enjoying the ratcheting wrench. I went over a decade not owning spanners because I had the pass through socket sets. There was maybe 3 occasions in that time where I had to borrow a wrench. I finally found a good close out deal on the reversible wrenches and many years later, many wrenches hanging above my bench at the shop, I’m still reaching for that low profile pass thru socket set. It’s about that handle feel.

20 years of pass thru knowledge here. Way past borderline obsession. I just discovered this new kit from Klein, did some research and I am headed down to Lowe’s to buy the ratchet kit right now. As far as compatibility,I have a hunch. Stay tuned
@Jessknowsnothin

Sorry. I saw the empty parking lot at Lowe’s and totally forgot it was turkey day. Anyways. I suspect the Kobalt Xtreme Access 1/4” drive pass thru sockets might fit. The drive part of the socket measures 13mm (just a smidge over 1/2”) and the ratchet drive ring measures approximately 13.5mm. In one video I watched (yours?) it was mentioned that the 2 Klein socket sets were 1/2” and 5/8”. I’m not sure how or what parts were measured but it might be a close fit. The 3/8” Kobalt sockets are 19mm so not even close. Now my hunch is a pass through set that was sold at o’rileys auto (Power Torque). It doesn’t come as a kit and the sae and metric sockets are sold separately, so if someone wanted to buy the metric rail of sockets (5-13mm for about $15) maybe those will fit. Power torque sold a 3/8” drive pass thru kit but it’s been discontinued. I found the ratchet on eBay but can’t find the sockets anywheres. Those might fit the screw driver because the 1/4 drive was smaller than Kobalt and I suspect the 3/8” drive was also smaller. They do sell a new 3/8 pass thru kit but it is the larger 19mm wide drive sockets. I’d be happy to answer any questions. I’m pretty versed in the 2 common styles of pass thru. Including things you might not have even considered.

The Klein set for sure works with the screwdriver… but maybe if you get the ratcheting screwdriver you can try it with the other sets you have to see if it works. Really what we are looking for is a pass through socket set that the attachment part of the socket is like a 1/2” nut size. I figure a 1/4” set is the only one we might get lucky on… most 3/8 will probably be too big. Appreciate all your help 👍👍
@Jessknowsnothin

I forgot something else. I’ve been looking for the power torque sockets and discovered “low profile” sockets. Most of them are pass thru but use a square drive as the hole so you can use 2 ratchets or a ratchet and a wrench for high torque applications (Genius! But gear wrench thought of it too for the bit set). Carbyne sells bit socket rails and list the diameter as 5/8 as I hear on KZitem to be the measurement for Klein. It should be noted that the “low profile” sockets are mostly impact ready for extreme garage use which makes building up a pass thru set for this proprietary size much more expensive. Also to note, I saw on torque test channel that team red and team yellow came out with battery powered pass thru ratchets that use a similar size socket.

Ok and the pass thru sockets that feature a universal spline instead of the traditional 6 point. Of the 4-5 different brands of universal pass thru sets I’ve had , none fit a fastener as good as 6 point. Every one I tried fit sloppy on the fastener and I even damaged a couple bolts made of softer alloy from the sloppy u-spline fit. Obviously as the fastener size increases the chance of damage is less but the smaller ones fit very poorly. U-spline has its place in the garage but not companies are advertising it as no problem fits anything! Not true. Except for their intended use they become Swiss. Do it all but not great.
