Ben is obviously an expert at this stuff. I'm refreshing my 3rd pair of KLH Model Fives and thought I'd look to an expert to verify what I do. His videos are professional, concise, well-focused, and educational. No shaky camera. Just a high quality video. Others could learn how to do videos from him.

Thank you so much for taking the time to share your in depth restoration series. I especially appreciated the cosmetic wood veneer tricks.

My son has some old Altec speakers that have similar issues as yours did. I think I'm going to give them a shot after watching your video. Great job!

Small air holes in the epoxy can be slightly overfilled with CA glue then sanded down flush. The color of the epoxy will come through and will not be able to tell hole was ever there.

I enjoyed your process and final result. I restore old shotguns and I may spend 5 hours just sanding the butt stock and fore stock. I use 3 coats of stain and 3 coats of Truoil and use #4 steel wool between coats. It takes 6 days but it's worth the wait. I get so angry when I see the condition some of these speakers and some of the electronics are in. What do these previous owners do to these things?

Mist some water on the dented areas, the moisture will raise the wood grain, let dry and lightly sand with 150 - 200 grit so you don't sand through the veneer !

@@NovaluxStereophonic Here's a way to fix the back of the KLH model five speaker enclosure where the tape removed some of the paint, of course it's the back, so you won't see it, but, to ease your mind, mask off the terminal panel using pieces of cardboard and painters tape, ( you don't want to have the tape remove more paint), carefully shrink wrap the sides of the enclosure that you carefully refinished, apply a couple of coats of medium brown matte spray paint to blend in and cover the areas of paint that the tape removed previously, the whole enclosure is made if particleboard with the walnut wood veneer, so the back will look fairly uniform when your done, let dry overnight and everything should be fine, besides, the spray paint will help seal the back of the enclosures from absorbing any moisture in the air and swelling up or discoloring !

Getting a nice joint at the cap would be very difficult without pulling the original veneer.

Out of curiosity, how much would you charge for this? I’ve got a set of speakers I’d like to restore, but I’d never even attempt this on my own. Looks easy, but I know it’s not lol
