I have an infinite amount of respect for air traffic controllers (and pilots of course!) after this. It must be one of the most difficult jobs in the world monitoring such busy airspace. Thanks for all these videos SuredT! I could watch them all day.

That girl working that ATC is amazingly intelligent......wish I had that job. I' m proud of her. i also like the men who do that job...sometimes bad things happen and they are all ready for it. Yes I know their supervisor is near but...THEY KNOW THEIR JOBS...EVERYONE would like to thank all traffic controllers and pilots for all they do....amazing people she can be proud of her achievements as well as those men

@MarcoPalva. Do you know there was a time there weren't any PC's? Well in those days I got my flight training. There were only linktrainers, no vision, no 3 axis movements, only very simple computers. And nobody had a PC at home, they still had to be invented at that time. I am talking about the early 70's ;-)

@guidodeukuzeta1234. In a 747 you start the flare at about 40 ft (the book says 30 ft but in my experience that's a bit too low) by increasing your pitch attitude with only 2 degrees, then close the thrustlevers to idle while keeping the pitch attitude the same. A smooth landing should follow.

@dyn4mic87 That the boeing is heavy ;). I think you're referencing to the "Caution Wake turbulences heavy boeing 747" - These are "winds" or actually turbulences that appear directly behind an aircraft and they can reach about 2-3 miles behind it.

@Rafal102able. No Autoland means Autoland. The autopilot stays connected till the point where the pilot wants to leave the centerline at taxi speed. So the autopilot keeps tracking the ILS localiser on the runway exactly over the centerline by steering with the rudder. The autothrottle disconnects after the throttles are retarded to idle setting and reverse thrust is given. So after touchdown.

@Flooo9090 This was a visual approach I believe, so there is no glideslope, although he can use the PAPI. But when you're on an ILS, once you've disconnected the AP, you follow the localiser/glideslope with the flight director.

@Marinus1111. With some aircraft you have to wait till nose gear is on the ground, with the 747 you can apply reverse thrust at main gear touchdown. Vertical speed at touchdown? Same as your C152. Soft landing is at 50 ft/min. Hard touchdown is at 500 ft/min. Very hard is 1000 ft/min.

@ApacheCobra. As you go higher the air gets thinner. So when you fly 300 kts at sea level you see 300 kts IAS. When you fly 300 kts TAS (=True Air Speed) at 30.000 ft you will see a much lower IAS on your airspeed indicator, however you are still traveling with 300 kts through the air. Stress on the airplane is depended on TAS and not IAS. See Wikipedia and search on Airspeed. You will see all the possible speeds in aviation.

Just saw this...seven years later! However at 0:26, the approach controller (SOCAL TRACON) instructs KLM 601 Heavy to maintain 180 kts airspeed to LIMMA (the final approach fix for RWY 25L) and to contact LAX tower at LIMMA, on frequency 120.95, (this point or fix is at about a 5 mile final to the runway, at the Harbor Freeway). It sounds like they switched from approach to tower frequency just inside the Harbor Freeway, at 2:17. Unfortunately, due to a lot of other aircraft calling on tower frequency, KLM 601 Heavy isn't able to call in until well inside of LIMMA (only about 3 miles out, at 2:54). Understandably, he was beginning to get a little concerned that he wouldn't be able to call in time to get a landing clearance, before getting in too close. Finally, at 3:04 she responds by saying, "KLM 601 Heavy, L.A. tower, wind 240 degrees at niner (9 kts), Runway 25 Left, cleared to land". He responds with "Cleared to land, Runway 25 Left, KLM 601 Heavy." After landing, at 5:04, the tower instructs the flight, "KLM 601 Heavy, turn right on to (taxiway H9) Hotel Niner, hold short of Runway 25 Right on (taxiway) Tango, which he reads back, almost verbatim (missing only the "on Tango" part, but taxiway tango is the next one in front of the aircraft, so it's pretty obvious. The important part to readback is: "Hold Short" of "Runway XX or Taxiway X" and "the aircraft call-sign". He is still waiting for clearance to cross Runway 25 Right (due to multiple departures off of that runway) when the video ends.
