1526. u vihoru rata Osijek posta dijelom Osmanskog carstva.

In ancient times, in the winds of war in summer of 1526, Osijek became a part of the huge Ottoman Empire. Fortunately for the people of Osijek, on Friday, 29th of September 1687 at 11 o’clock the last Ottoman soldier left the town. In early 1700-hundreds the city churches started ringing their bells to celebrate the freedom that they had been long waiting for.
As years passed by, the churches still rang their bells in the memory of the important event, but the people of Osijek forgot what they really meant…In the end and so very practically, the chefs and cooks from Osijek realized one thing: the best time to start preparing one of their favorite dishes - stuffed knoedl (dumplings) - was exactly “when all the churches told them to” so that lunch would be ready by noon!
And so that 11th hour on Fridays became known as the “knoedl-time” or “knedl-sat”! If it is Friday today, wait until 11 o’clock, listen very carefully and if you can hear the church bells ringing, ask for one of our favorites - the delicious plum knoedl (dumplings). Hear and taste the over 300 years old story from Osijek!
