Old post, but the reason why only the lockbar side liner etched somewhat similar to the blade (different surface finish may account for the variation in color/intensity), is because sometimes manufacturers use the same steel as the blade. This may be solely on the lockbar side, or both sides, to prevent lock-stick from dissimilar metals interacting. My QSP gannet actually has 154cm liners on both sides, which suprised the shit out of me until I researched why. At first I was wondering why the liners were magnetic like the blade. (154cm is one of the stainless variants that are magnetic). EDIT: realized this knife technically doesn't have a traditional lockbar, but the theory is still the same.

The steel used on the compression lock side of the blade is a slightly higher grade of steel!! The higher grade steel on the lock side allows Spyderco to heat treat the lock side to a much higher value. As a result the actual locking portion of the liner doesn’t wear as quickly when coming into contact with a premium and likely very hard blade tang!!

I'd be interested but I'm all booked up. Maybe in the future we can have a go at it.😁

i have a pm2 and it doesnt drop without resistance like that and I can't figure out why. I'ts like super stiff. I kpl'd it, it's centered fine and everything. Its the full ti lynch scales and rockscale backspacer. Lynch thinks it might be the liner but it looks fine. Maybe needs new washers?

That's strange, the backspacer thickness might be affecting it🤔

@@KnathansKnives I think you're right. Either the backspacer or the stop pin. Thanks for your input!

Looks great! If you could talk over the fast forward stuff, that would kill.
