many people would have stopped seeing the bar not being welded to the chain! so you have shown perseverance and ambition and patience! It's all in your Honor! and only those who do nothing make no mistakes

I think the handle part instead of black paint you should try burning the wood and oil it, adds more contrast to the wood texture.

Forge the chain into a solid piece of steel first, then clean the sides of each piece to be welded together, weld on each end, THEN heat, flux, heat and hammer lightly at first, repeat until they have welded together.

Just a tip with the wood. If you put a finish on the wood, or a stain, quite often the wood fibres absorb the liquid and swell. Then it feels rough. You can (if you want to) put a stain/finish on the wood, let it dry, sand it, put more stain/finish on it. That gives it a better finish.

well yeah it warped, the way it wasn't evenly heated when you quenched it...was this your first time?
@leatherface711

i think you had issues with the welds due to not enough heat , the 5160 and rivets are pretty close to the same with how much heat you need for them to weld properly, still a cool project
@jk.projects
2 жыл бұрын
I think the rivets had some kind of coating on them, but the 5160 is deff due to not enough heat.

I have found in my own projects that like 7 times out of 10, swirling my blades during heat treat warps em. So I cut the oil, or go up and down. Just a thought.

I noticed that if I cut the oil i get a bend in the profile so I just dunk and don’t move it until the flame of the oil dissipates

@@tjboylan20 I've heard people can get inconsistent results that way, due to leidenfrost effect, but hey if it works for you, then hell yeah! Thanks for sharing your findings!

I think you need to immerse it into a kind of degreaser before forging and use a lot of borax and ammonium chloride powder for welding in the process.
@jk.projects
2 жыл бұрын
Yeah it was a very dirty chain. Took about 3-4 days just to get it cleaned. The store ran out of borax and I just had a little, but the main thing is I need alot more practice at forge welding.

нож эстетически красив , но каков его функционал? на стену повесить для красоты?! по моему субъективному мнению в середину пакета надо было добавить хороший металл , даже пластина от той же рессоры с этой задачей справилась. а так просто эстетика.

The biggest problem I seen in this video is that this guy didn't get the materials hot enough to actually forge weld. Which is why the "5160 leaf spring" was able to be removed from the stack of chain. Also never go side to side in your quenching oils. Go up and down in the oils.
