to ALL security guards like this guy: remember that outside the store you have NO authority and a quick nut shot will remind you of that, so remember to be friendly and if someone is doing something that you think they shouldn't do, the first thing you do is ASK them to stop. DON'T tell them to stop when they are outside the store on a public sidewalk like the gut recording this was because again you have NO authority outside of the store and can not tell anyone to do anything.

+Happy TV the trick is that they have put there jewellery on public display by placing it in their front window. As such you have every right in the world to film it. If they have had problems in the past from people filming the store to aid in a robbery that is their problem. It is up to them to find a way to passively stop people from filming the interior of the store from the street. Perhaps a backdrop to the window display. They can hire a full time security guard, so let them hire a security consultant to deal with this. You are completely within your right to film anything that is visible from a public place with the exception of children and items of national security. The latter are usually posted with no filming signs.

As a security guard I can honestly say that the situation should of been dealt with in 2 mins. You approach the chap filming your shop , if he's too close for comfort and ask him why he's filming. He doesn't have to tell you but if your polite I'm sure he will. You then explain that jewelers are subject to robberies and you have to be vigilant, thats why you approched him. Take a brief description of him and log it with your company. As for filming in the shop you can simply ask him to leave if the management don't allow filming. Its there shop. Nobody is forcing you to go in, if you don't like being filmed on private property then leave. That security guard is a douche, he made it worse with his dumb attitude.
@DonZaloog88
8 жыл бұрын
+Mr T What exactly is "too close for comfort"? Do enlighten me. If your shop has its' merchandise displayed through a massive piece of glass, why is it that people are not able (or allowed) to film? It does not matter what the place you're protecting is subject to, since the film-maker does not have to ID themselves beyond a certain extent. It does not matter if the manager does not allow filming, either - because this man was not INSIDE the store. You would have handled the situation in a piss poor manner much like the guard depicted in the video.

What is going on on in this guys mind that he feels he can walk out onto a public footpath & bully a member of the public 4 filming a display in a shop window. Your a human being mate. Don't let your job turn you into a robot. Drop the ego & use your brain. If your boss told you to go & confront this guy then tell them that is not your job. You don't get paid to do that. You asked him to stop filming, he refused as Is his legal right & that should've been the end of it. I think it's a good thing that people are posting these kinds of videos to get people thinking about their rights & make people aware of corporate fascism. They actually have the sheep policing the sheep but I feel that the film maker should be honest from the start about why he's really filming & that the reaction & interaction is the whole point. That way you could separate more the personal challenge aspect of the interaction from the corporate programming.

It's easy to say this long after the fact, but the simple matter is that not even the police can stop you filming in a public place *unless* it's for commercial purposes, but *excluding* news footage of interest to the general public. Once the alleged security guard approached you, you had the right to demand identifying data to confirm his claims. Even then there was no requirement to engage with him other than telling him to go away. If he refuses to do that immediately you have the right to call the police on the national non emergency number. You could be unlucky and get an idiot cop that wants to arrest you for breach of Section 44 of the Terrorism Act 2000. Fortunately Section 58(a) overrides that and gives you the right to photograph (still or video) and/or audio record *everything* visible or audible from a public place unless the police have strong grounds to believe that the data *may* (not merely could) be used for purposes of terrorism.

This is quite frustrating to watch because even though you sometimes say the right thing eg what law can he quote to stop you, you then begin playing their game by explaining yourself.
