@@Saratogaknitting Yes, unfortunately it is really a roller coaster! I had to deal with it when I was 23 years old when the last of my parents passed and then 11 years later when my only sibling passed at 35. Hopefully knitting and getaway will help to combat some of the stress and sad feelings! 🙏

Dear Lisa, my condolences for your double losses-a sudden death in the family is a brutal shock, but an expected one is no less difficult for being drawn out in time-I’ve experienced both circumstances. The legal aftermath is daunting, as you well know, but it will eventually be over. I’m glad you are still knitting. Since my mother died, I’ve knit lots of garments and accessories-but for some reason can’t produce anything that fits me. Instead everything suits some other family member. (It’s getting ridiculous now, I feel like Sisyphus! ) but the process of knitting is a great comfort, nonetheless. Best of luck dealing with the new FASFA, that’s an additional stressor you didn’t need! Be good to yourself.

I was pleased to see a podcast from you but so sorry to hear your news. Ive had a similar year. My mum (93) lived in the UK and I live in California. Also I'm an only child and she was too so when she got dementia I had no alternative but to move her to a care home. We kept her house for as long as we could but I decided to sell it in November. Everything had to be done by email or post. Then no sooner than that was all sorted she suddenly passed, in a way like your MiL. No symptoms other than ongoing ones. So all those arrangements had to be done by my brother in law. We had a trip to uk planned and it was sad that we were too late! But we were able to pick up her remains and have a little memorial. I'm the executor of the will and all that and probate is being done by email with solicitors! Hugs and all the best as you deal with the loss and the paperwork! Jane

Oh it is such a cumbersome process. And, as I mentioned, we are having a bit of difficulty with one of the brothers. I am hoping all will work out because we just need to get through this. I am so sorry for all that you have had to go through long distance no less.

Grieving and stress take a lot of energy so have grace for you and the rest of the family. Congrats on your Cataract surgery! I am much older, but had that done last year. The financial aid debacle has impacted everyone who is hopefully attending college next year as well. Thankfully, my grandchild has had options.

So sorry for the loss of your beloved family members. My mom died at the end of 2022 (seems like last week, in a way) at age 97. Her estate was simple, but even so, the "death admin" took a year - so many little details. PS I'm getting my cataracts done later this summer - can't wait!

So sorry for your losses. My parents are both 94. My dad is in memory care. We just had to move my mom to a senior living center. Now we are going through her stuff and selling her house. It’s so hard. Are there any checklists of all the people/places you need to contact once someone dies?
@Saratogaknitting
4 ай бұрын
Thank you. The whole process is very hard. One of the first things my husband did was google what to do when a parent dies. There are lots of good checklists and they were helpful to us. It was tedious but doable when my FIL passed away since everything automatically transferred to my MIL. But her will has to go to probate and this process has been pretty tough.

For all the weight on you, yet you're so uplifting here on KZitem, and I'm sure for your family and colleagues. Thanks I have twin nephews just now receiving their financial aid offers. What a challenge this whole thing has been. You continue to inspire me. My first colorwork project - the Faye cowl, which you introduced to me - is turning out beautifully. I'm using a color changing contrast yarn, as you did. Mystery is my favorite literary genre, yet I haven't read any of the Campion series, so I'm off to remedy that. And, my cataracts are getting worse, so hearing about your surgery results is really encouraging. Thanks for sharing about the wonderful people your in-laws are. I know what it's like to feel you missed supporting them in their final moments (I carried that regret with both my parents), but the thousands of moments you did spend with them are the ones that matter most. It may not feel like it, but it's true.
