Your "how-to" knitting videos are the best I've found! They are detailed, sharp, thorough, and very easy on the eyes. Thanks so much for all your hard work making knitting easy for us out here in cyberspace! (P.S. I'm going to go download your "fingerless glove videos" right around now. Can't wait to try them!) Please, keep making such helpful videos!

I've been struggling to learn a basic cable stitch and my dyslexia has me all turned around. I'm finding that adding a 3rd needle to the mix actually just makes it more confusing, but seeing you use this method makes a lot more sense of things. I'm going to go try it now. :) Thank You!

Your videos are so helpful. Right now I'm doing a cardigan whose design incorporates numerous two-stitch cables. I prefer using a needle too, but with so many of them...and just with one stitch transferring over to the cn...this method really helps speed things up and cuts down on frustration. Wonderful instructions, as always.

Your best bet is to start with a pattern that will give you some direction in making cables. Then you might want to watch my video called "Knitting Help - Cables" for a basic review of how to do them. Sorry - KZitem won't let me give you a link here in the comments, but you can find the video by searching my channel page. Hope that helps!

That was so informative, thank you. I also like how you showed how to change the cable, I'm a beginner and your explanation made so much sense!

By far the easiest cabling w/o needle technique I have seen, so far. There are quite a few other videos posted by great knitting tutorial youtubers, but I have to say this is the easiest. Thanks for posting!

I can see why the cable needle is better. Trying to move the stitches off and on the needles without the cable needle seems like more of a pain in the butt than just picking up a cable needle and using it. Thank you so much for showing this technique though!!

I've only ever made two cabled projects. Both were scarves, and I used a cable needle. I'm about to start a cardigan which has a cabled pattern repeat, so I think I'm going to try this method. Thanks so much for yet another great tutorial! (Whenever I need to learn a new technique, I always search through your videos first.)

Great tutorial, but I, like you, prefer the cable needle. It is no harder to wield than double pointed needles in my opinion. I love the look of cables (working on a beautiful pattern now actually; that's what brought me here). I really like your tutorials!

this will help my cables go faster, having to set the extra needle up and down takes a lot of extra time. I am making a blanket right now and there is about 42 cables every four rows.

I carry the cable needle in my left hand for the whole row of cable, it doesn't interfere with the ability to knit.

I prefer to do with a cable needle BUT would YOU do fingering weight without. the pattern i'm working on is just switching 2 stitches 1/1 but everytime i do it. it gets fiddly and not tidy. i like tidy. help stacy!

Can you use a regular knitting needle in the same place as a cable needle? Because that was a way I was shown a while ago but I'm not sure if I should just invest in the cable needle all the same.
@verypinkknits

You can use anything that will hold the stitches - another needle, a paper clip, anything. But after working cables several times you'll find that it's much easier to use a needle designed to hold cable stitches.

Just curious, in a situation like this, say a 3 over 3 cable like she was doing here, can a safety pin be used in place of a cable needle if it's big enough to hold the stitches? I don't have a cable needle but I'm not quite brave enough to leave live stitches hanging free like that, be my luck they would come unraveled.
@verypinkknits

Katy - you can use a safety pin, but there are other things you can use that would be easier! Cable needles are ideal, since they have a point on each end. You slide the stitches to the cable needle from one side, and knit off the cable needle from the other side. If you don't have a cable needle, a double-pointed needle is your next best bet. Without that, you could use a short pencil or even a chopstick - both would be easier than using a safety pin. Hope that helps!

Hi Thank you so much for your videos. They are very helpful. I am in a middle of a pattern that uses C2R and C2L. I confirm that there are many videos on internet regarding this but there is no video regarding how to make C2R and C2L on WS!!! Why?? Is it a conspiration?? I hope you or someone can help me with that, my shawl needs you! Vanessa
@verypinkknits
10 жыл бұрын
Hi Vanessa - the reason that you're not seeing videos specifically for that stitch is because stitches like "C2R" and "3PB", for example, are unique to different patterns. They aren't really standardized, so a designer can make those stitches mean anything. There should be instructions in your pattern for how many stitches to put on the cable needle, whether to hold the CN in front or back, and whether to knit or purl the stitches in the combo. Beyond that, this video should help with the basics of working the cable. Hope this helps! kzitem.info/news/bejne/mWei25ytpJiJdqw

VeryPink Knits many thanks for your response. You are right: there are specific instruction in the pattern. The issue here is that I don't understand how to make a stitch, purl wise and in the back when I am on WS... it is very difficult! So RS is clear enough but purl wise + wrong side... too much for my hands :(
@PequeDexter
10 жыл бұрын
VeryPink Knits this is exactly the tricky part: On WS, skip first st and purl into the back of second st, leaving both sts on left needle. Purl first st and slip both off needle.

Ah, yes. That is not only a cable stitch that doesn't use a cable needle (which is kind of tricky on it's own), but it has a ptbl in there. That's a tough combo. I can give you this link, which will at least help you with the ptbl part: kzitem.info/news/bejne/mX1_1q6Hi6BkaqQ
