@@whatmarielmadeThanks Amber for your referral to Muriel. I have been binge watching to catch up. I lived in the Bay Area 30 years until relocating to the Big Island. No yarn shops, very very small group of knitters which I have been promoting without much success. You guys are my life line.

I've been spinning for years. From my personal experience, it really doesn't matter which direction you spin your single as long as you go the opposite direction plying. Just enjoy your spinning. Love your podcast

I also use the bread tags for longtail castons because it allows your tail to turn so the twist stays the same throughout. I forget who I saw that from but it's a neat trick. Spinning...I mean everyone has their opinion but as a beginner I think it doesn't matter much, it's fun to do the tests though if you're interested and see if there is a difference for your own knitting. You have to go both ways on a spindle anyways so I would say get comfy going the other way as well at least.

Such a great trick, those bread tags! And ahh thank you for weighing in on the spinning dilemma; it's definitely been good to get more used to spinning in my "naturally non-dominant direction"

Had the same experience with my pressed flowers - fun then a slog. But after losing my shawl 😢 I do plan to remake it in full, because it is a really useful garment! But bandana is cute too

Really enjoyed your pod! I can totally relate to the shawl slug feeling. Working on a stockinette triangle shawl pattern called "spring kerchief" and its so tough to keep going as those rows get longer😅 I spin on a turkish spindle and prefer flicking clockwise at the top of the spindle eventually ill probably get my hands on a drop like yours but i really enjoy the look of the turtles that the turkish makes. Lovelovelove how that natural fiber is working up and am excited to see its final form.
@whatmarielmade

Thanks for watching and good luck on your spring kerchief! Hang in there! haha Oooh I also would loooove to get a turkish spindle some day! They look so beautiful, and I like how the spinning area you need is more "contained" than drop spindle spinning. Will keep you updated on how that natural fiber spins up!

Go for the bandana! My unpopular knitting opinion is that mosaic knitting is overrated 😬 I don't enjoy it and feel like I can get the same look with stranded color work. So move on from this project you don't enjoy! Also I loved the little rambly bit about your local knit group. I feel exactly the same way - the hope and joy that comes from people of all walks of life bonding together over yarn never gets old ☺️

Yay for team bandana! I'm def gonna wrap it up soon, just don't really care to have the full shawl and you're right: Life is too short to knit on things you don't really enjoy!

As far as spinning twist, as long as you like the results, you aren’t doing it wrong. Just ply what you’ve done and finish it and knit a swatch to see if you like the results. Would recommend doing this anyway, if you’re new to spinning. Have fun!

I’m the slow maker of the crew. I don’t mind very slow projects. I just have a few things around and I work on them just depending on my mood. I’ve only knitted one bandana and I just find it so small… I prefer a shawl.

Good call! I have a feeling that this might end up being in between a small bandana and a large shawl 😅

I have trouble with mosaic patterns like pressed flowers bécause they are both boringly repetitive but also require you to pay quite a bit of attention !
@whatmarielmade

I am TOTALLY on board with that after having tried it now. I don't think i'll be picking up another mosaic pattern after this for a while either ;)

Honestly the difference between ply directions is so negligible I doubt you will notice in your finished object! Especially because as a beginner your yarn will have texture and uneven plying etc 😊
