I loved this so much as well. At first it's a mystery, then a drama, comedy and a brilliant character story, and then finally a satisfying mystery again. As well as being fantastically written and even politically incisive. Ana de Armas' acting is also a complete highlight.

Knives Out. Knives are sharp. The opposite of sharp is blunt. A blunt is also a joint. Joints in the body is usually only bend in one direction. Regan's joints bend the wrong way in the spider walk scene which was added back into the extended version of The Exorcist.

Thoroughly enjoyed this film at the BFI London Film Festival - delightfully theatrical, very modern muder-mystery caper interwoven with all the classic genre tropes - Daniel Craig is a tour-de-force & Ana De Armas is captivating in a film that is equally as compelling as it is complex.

Took my Mum to see this yesterday and we both loved it. I love supporting movies like this, where you feel as though you are rewarding the film's creators by going to see it, given that they have clearly put a lot of effort into making something both brilliant and new/original. Rather than going to see Pirates of the Caribbean 5 and you leave feeling like at this point the creators are just mugging you right off

I have not wanted to watch a movie again after just finishing it at the movies. All the details! So rich and clever! All the dialogue makes sense at the end! Rian Johnson nailed the script so well. I love all the cast members. I cannot say I guessed the villain. The villain was so great and unbelievably devilish. Oh my goodness. I cannot spoil the movie but oh boy the villain was so despicable yet I was rooting for this person at the beginning!

I thought it was a fairly good film. Not a great one. I think the primary reason it succeeds is because the role of the female protagonist in the film is such a well written character, and she is portrayed beautifully by Ana De Armas, who breathes such intense, shining humanity into her character that the audience can’t help but to root for her. Daniel Craig and the supporting cast are all very fine. I wasn’t at all familiar with Amas as an actress but came away very impressed by both the depth of her character and her nuanced performance. IMHO, it elevated the movie to a whole new level. I also really liked the somewhat open ending.

This is probably 2019's most purely entertaining film. To Mark's comments I would add: 1) So many of these whodunnits have small and large logical plot-holes that can spoil the fun a bit when you think about the story afterwards. So far, complex as the story is, I haven't come up with a single one. I'm wondering if anybody else has discovered something logically bothersome? 2) The subplot involving immigration is on target politically, I thought, and the jokes about the young troll (a very minor character) are surely the director giving a sly poke at his Star Wars Internet detractors?

I saw this film with the expectations that I was in for a good time. I left very disappointed. This has been the case with a lot of Rian Johnsons films. Critics seem to love Looper, but I really didn't see what the fuss was about . Then with his Star wars adventure...hmmm the less said about that one the better. Now Knives out. I think there are some directors that just dont appeal to my sensibilities. A group of us came to a conclusion after a long conversation in the pub that the film is not as smart as it thinks it is. Might be a controversial opinion. Can't please everyone Rian.

Was rather disappointed with Knives Out. Laughed out loud at the line "What's this? CSI KFC?" but otherwise underwhelmed - especially as so many friends had raved about it. I suppose it's because i've read Christie since age dot and the whole "everyone's a suspect" (although they weren't) is old hat, and although this was an homage I was surprised at the lack of surprise if you get me. Yeah, the script was snappy and had some good lines but even that didn't save it. I was hoping for twists and really I didn't get any. I was disappointed when it turned out to be the obvious suspect - and was really disappointed when the final shot wasn't something showing that the whole thing that that person did was a complete fake.

It is reasonably mediocre in that there is no suspense, no real thriller aspect. The guilty party does little to cover tracks and the ‘investigation’ is...a bit...meh. I think the characters are done well and at certain stages it appears all could be involved however the payoff for why it was done and by who left me cold. It was predictable and the motive lacked any real intelligence. It was more in the vein of Monk than Agatha Christie...I quite like Monk but this was not as much fun.

Rian johnson nails his plots around muggufins (term for odd things) instead of real, identifiable behaviours or observations in an attempt to appear "clever". It came across as shoddy craftsmanship that was irritating in its cornyness. It's not a bad film and it does have some good devices and observations but doesn't use them to move the plot forward. Instead he uses vomiting and replacing the word "you" with "hugh" to make a scene make sense.....Jeasus Christ. muggufins are there to add texture to a world, but not steer the entire film.
