..Kienan. I have been going through art crisis after art crisis lately. Your videos tho.. they keep coming out and they keep nailing some of the shit that I am struggling with and explaining them in a way that helps me work the problems I'm having out. I've spent the last two weeks agonizing over a commission and how I'm going to do the lighting, and you just casually bringing up that 3 point lighting rule and briefly explaining it while demonstrating rendering on the balls just saved my damn life. I've been trying to work with one warm or cool light source and a contrasting cool or warm shadow source forever and it just hasn't been working like I wanted it to. Middle of this video though I just paused and went straight back to it, merged some of my layers and started redoing things like a madwoman and I'm finally becoming happy with what I'm seeing and i miGHT CRY. So I um.. thanks. Idk if you get around to reading the rambley comments but I wanted to say I appreciate you.

I can only assume that the dislikes stem from people being lazy as hell and saying something like "HAH I'm not going to spend 30 minutes to learn something new, where's a 1 minute video where I can learn to do it like complete crap instead?" Great video. I loved watching you work on the orb and turning it into something fancy. :D

This guy is so cool! By far one of the most interesting, helpful, and easy-to-understand artists I've come across thus far, breaking down some really advanced subjects into ways that most people I have known would have an easy time grasping and following. I really love how he also runs into hitches, mistakes, and sometimes stumbles over his words on camera, it makes him feel very real, and doesn't take himself too seriously by edit those things out of his uploads. It makes him very relateable, and in a way, helps the viewer to also get a little confidence not to worry about doing the same things. I find him to be one of the most enjoyable youtubers to watch, and I learn so much at the same time! :) Never stop being so undeniably cool, Kienan! :D

Thank you so much dude. I've recently gotten so frustrated with art lately to the point I nearly gave up. I've sunk thousands of dollars into art school and was finding that I wasn't learning the basic shit I needed to learn. And suddenly I get introduced to your videos and I have honestly learned more in 15 minutes than I have at two years at college.

12:16 Isn't that the fresnel effect? We see actually more surface on a smaller area because of the curving of the ball and therefore more light in that area?

I loved this piece, and I always love your videos, but I have a question. I've been looking into college admissions (who cares if it's 5 years away?) and they've all suggested to stay away from anime in the portfolios for admissions, but my style is kinda anime most of the time. How do I change my style to draw more realistically?

I have one question about color: when i choose the local color do i have to pick the "original" color of the object or i need to choose it depending on the light source? Because let's say i've chosen a red color and the object with this color is under a blue light. So i use this red and i light it using the blue or do i take a purple-ish color instead?
@WillowCreative

id use blue on the highlights and red on the shadows of the object

Can you do a tutorial on body hair for men? All of the areas of hair look different in different ways and I feel like none of my drawings of hairy bodies looks realistic enough, I feel like I'm making some B-rated werewolf man from the 80's movies.
