This is a great design and you did a fabulous job building it. A word of caution from my own experience: If you have a son who plays guitar, that boy will end up with a substantial number of guitars over the next few years, so be warned that you will be making more of these in the future. So, keep those plans handy.

To me these wooden free standing stands are like works of art in themselves. Much nicer than the cheap metal ones you buy. Can't say I'm crazy about the guitar - kind of plane. But I really nice looking guitar in this stand would look great in a living room or somewhere when not being played.

Thanks Art - I guess I owe you another $5 for a second set of plans as I just built 2! Mine won't leave my studio so I used construction 2x8 for the vertical and wings, with some hardwood scraps for the bottom centre piece and head yolk. They look and work great. 1 ½" softwood seems stable enough, but I wouldn't call it portable and wouldn't mill softwood down to 1" for sure - yours is much sleeker too, but I didn't have the spare hardwood or cash for it and the gamble seems to have worked ok. Thanks again - great design!

I like it for "leave me here stand" but it is not practical enough to haul around with all my other crap for a gig. And... because this is tall, I bet it still very wobbly on a carpeted room.. but then, any stand in the style of "hanging" will have the same problem.

Liquid Len I'm quite sure it would. In fact, I can help you with that. Check out Chop-with-Chris' video here: kzitem.info/news/bejne/2Gl-qKp5fHqpZKQ Starting a bit more than half-way through or so he builds an Air guitar. it would match perfectly with this stand.

I have a Mountain Dulcimer that I want to make a stand for. I really want a that I can take apart and take with me when I go to festivals. It's 36" long and has a scroll head. How would I adjust this to hold it at the right height? The fretboard is 1.5" wide so the head is rather narrow too. The tuning gear buttons are towards the front, I am considering replacing them with planetary gears though.

On my stand, the bass is held at a height of about 42". Height-wise, it would work. I have no idea about center-of-mass on a dulcimer, that is why I spoke several times about prototypes in the video. Best wishes.
