The alarm is overall a better (from first glance) alarm (much more refined than even the Boomerang Cyclotrac V2) but the downside is that the alarm is not loud. 85 dB is annoying but if you want serious deterrent against at least a would-be/opportunistic thief, an alarm with a siren level of 110-115 dBA at 10 feet distance in open an outdoors environment is much rather called for. Yes there is the liability of hearing damage, but this type of counter-offense should be there by design as a wimpy 85 dBA alarm is going to have a less of a chance of deterring theft or vandalism. I know there's probably a lot of arguments with even just the principal of using anti-theft technology (namely analog purist that much strongly prefer solid locks, cheap throw-away bikes, and insurance), but no argument of theirs will convince technology adopters from test-driving this sort of technology out. And of course, this device is not meant by any means to replace any sort conventional bike security measures, it's just another added layer of security and you obviously can't go wrong with more security layers. Point is, this device seems more polished than any other equivalent piece of equipment I've seen or tried, but it needs to be even louder (at least have a dedicated alarm piezo/horn and a quieter local feedback piezo so as to not blast your ears off when just controlling the device). This isn't the only thing I'd ever wish for in a smart bike security transponder-alerter system, I can name a laundry list of specifications that would beat out any bike-oriented alarm systems out of the water.

I’m guessing you have Elite cages like me but I read a review that said they struggled to get it to fit on their bike as the supplied security screws weren’t quite long enough? Also are you still using it? Any other problems since the review video? Thanks for your time & keep up the great content.

Quite the opposite - ppl feel upset. I would prefer a gps tracking of in-bike hidden unit. Sadly, this one is not that, and does not support Android, which is a real pity. I’m primarily interested in the deterrent potential. Setting off an alarm might be enough to deter a thief because it is obvious that the bike is protected beyond Airtags. I've had the Scout for a couple of months now. While the product itself is great the app consistently stops working properly. If I haven't used the alarm for a few days the arm/disarm button on app just disappears, even when its bluetooth connected, and the only way to get it back is to activate the alarm from the Scout (and, yes, I have the latest firmware version - 1.1.3). My Garnin Edge 530 has an alarm. But, Garmin head units are also easy for a thief to steal or throw away. That makes the alarm OK as a vibration/alert sensor if you are in sight of your bile, but not much good if you are in a shop. Whenever I lock up my bike to go into a store, I always unclip the Garmin and put it in my pocket. I really wanted to like this but..m You can disarm it using a button on the device? So anyone can walk up and disarm the thing. 😂😂😂 Also remotely arming via the app "as long as you are in Bluetooth range"… again what is the point? Bluetooth range is next to nothing unless it uses class 1. I can’t find any info about this but if it did use class 1, it would be near the top of the features list. The safety tool? Again, it’s a joke. Those sort of tools are easily available in most diy shops.

I just got an answer from the Knog and they confirmed that the arm/disarm button only works if the pair phone is within range. You did not mention that in your review, neither is it mentioned in the product description. I think having the option to disable the button completely using the app would be a good feature. Next, the thing about “oh Im in the cafe and forgot to arm the Scout, it’s ok I can do it using the app” … well yes, if you are sitting within a couple of meters from the Scout. The fact that a similar tool can readily be bought from a diy shop makes the security bolts more or less useless… but adding up a bunt h of small hindrances may help deter thieves.
