The show was so clever, they even included Don Murray on the opening credits for the two episodes he was on, so naturally we assumed he was going to survive the operation. That sad, dreamlike scene where they numbly walk to their cars and drive home, while the recording Sid made just hours before plays, is heartbreaking. You didn’t have to a fan of the show to recognize how good those episodes were.

Even though Dallas got more press, this was the far superior show.

Agreed. Dallas was too corporate- oil business for me as time went on. I lost interest over the years. Knots had great story lines that were multi-layered and overlapped many of the characters on the canvas.

Knots was about love rather than money and power and the themes the show was built around always endure. That's why it outlasted not just Dallas but all the competition too. Infact the show could probably run again today too.

This was a great series. To kill one of the main characters in a series like this was unheard of at the time and I remember really made an impact and made the show stand out even more because of that. BTW...his is probably the only time Abby and Val ever hugged on the show. The instrumental version of the theme song at the end was a nice touch to add to the melancholic episode. And yes, RIP Don Murray.

Yeah and I do believe that this was before Abby had an affair with Gary valines husband...At this point she had no reason to hate Abby.. Caron the sister in-law on the other hand disliked Abby with good reason ..

Michele Lee deserved an Emmy for her performance in the first three episodes of season 3. She was brillant. The way she learns of Sids death, the long walk down the hallway, the catonic numbness, the dramatic outbursts, the way she hits Gary. Top tier. I hope the producers at least submitted thsi reel for consideration.

“Is he dead? Just let me know if he’s dead.” That is the DEFINITION of character-based dialogue. The writers knew exactly how Karen would react in that moment.

12:02 to 12:11 was powerful she knew without him even having to tell her. The way she locked eyes with the doctor she knew already and then her going numb and catonic when she does find out.

Looking at it now, you can see that Don Murray’s credit is a still shot, he isn’t in any of group shots, and he doesn’t appear in any of the pictures in Michele Lee’s credit (unlike the other couples on the show). They did what they could to make it as easy - and cheap - as possible to remove him from the intro.

Oh please that's all Karen been doing is crying up until the surgery and his death which momentarily put her in shock . Trust and believe the tears are coming ..
