While I've been going to Disneyland since I was a toddler (and I just turned 54), when I was a teenager in the 80s, Knotts Berry Farm was actually more popular. I am an AP for both Disneyland and Knotts and it's always jarring to see the difference between the two properties now. Thank you David and Liz for helping remind us what Knotts CAN be when they put a little more effort into things. Love your enthusiasm and dynamic always. Thanks, guys!!!!!!!!!!!

Also loved Knotts as a kid from the 80’s. Best memories are: Beary Tales, Parachutes, Soap Box Racers, and dancing at Studio K. Also loved going in cheaper after 5? No chaperones needed. Lol

We are long time Disney;and APs but got a Knott’s Gold pass in October because it was so cheap. But yes the differences are huge. I do wish Knott’s had more relaxing ride-through attractions as Disneyland does. It get so crowded at Knott’s it is even worse than Disneyland trying to go on the big rides and there not being any other offerings (like a Small World, etc.). I first went o Knott’s going on trips to Disneyland in the 1960’s. It was usually a half-day at most and my parents always wanted the chicken dinner. Prior to 1968 there was no admission. You just walked into Ghost Town and bought tickets for the Calico Mine, etc. But they had ticket books like Disneyland, except there the “A” tickets were the highest level. They were even made by the same company which was Globe Tickets and had a similar look to Disney.

My sister and I went to the Boysenberry Festival in 2014/15/16, it was cheaper then and very fun. Our tasting card was maybe $30, in ‘14 we got an ear of corn with high boysenberry butter, spicy bbq boysenberry wings, fried alligator bites with fries and boysenberry aioli, hot dog with boysenberry relish, boysenberry trifle with ice cream, and boysenberry desert flautas. Then in the barn in the back of ghost town they had a wine tasting and wine card, 5 or 6 wines/beers/ciders and a place of cheese, cracker, fruit, & nuts for I think $21-$26. It was fantastic, such a great time and such good food and drinks. Seems like it’s gotten a little too pricey now, as is usually the case with these things. But, then it also seems like you get a looooot more choices of food now, back then you had to get those 6 items I listed, there wasn’t a ton of food at all. The beers and ciders and cheese plate was really damn good though.

To clear up some confusion a twice baked potato is made by first lightly baking it, cutting the potato in half and scooping out the insides leaving a "shell" made mostly of potato skin. The scooped out bits are mashed up and mixed with butter, cheese and seasonings and used to refill the "shells" which are then fully baked.

Last year the boysenberry plants had more leaves on them, but to be fair it is still early in the season. They need about 200 “chill hours” (between 32-45 degrees) to set fruit properly, and usually will not fruit much on the first year canes. So don’t expect much this year unless these are plants that have been matured for 18 months or so before selling

Boysenberry Festival had the tasting card with the tabs before Food and Wine did. They then switched to the tab free cards 2 years ago and Food and Wine finally did it this year! The best one still was 2019 The Boysenberry Festival was awesome! and those Taste of Events during the lockdown, the Halloween and Christmas ones killed it. If you want a dessert and you want more boysenberry...go with the Fun Bun in Ghost Town! Deep fried Cinnamon Roll covered in boysenberry glaze...we usually split one of those between 3-4 people...way better than funnel cakes in our opinion. You want a good Charcuterie Board...go across the street to The Cauldron...good food, really good seasonal specials and awesome drinks all in a cool witch themed bar. Not a beer or wine person...but the Boysenberry Beer, Boysenberry Wine and the Boysenberry Sangria are all good...the boysenberry mudslides they had the last few years were amazing... All these food festivals are hit and miss...I have had way more disappointments over the last 5 years with the ones at DCA...some weird stuff like those peanut butter noodles...the surprising one was Flavors of the World at Magic Mountain last year...some pretty good things there for sure Now Beary-Tales is nowhere near as good as the original Rolly Crump Beary Tales darkride that used to be there...but this new version is 1000x better than that god awful abomination Webslingers at DCA...that thing is bland, boring, outdated and super short...We wouldn't even go on that again if it was a walk on...a complete and total waste of space.

Get a boysenberry turnover from the bakery out front and never look back dude. Best boysenberry item at the park imo. We decided to skip the festival this year, went a few weeks prior and enjoyed the lower crowds. For everything Knott’s does and doesn’t do well, it was a better experience vs. paying crazy prices for mediocre food. I’ve actually been disappointed in the quality of Knott’s food for several years now due to it coming from a park whose history is founded on that very thing. they should be doing that better than everyone else. We go to Portillos down the street now after the day..big Italian beef sammich is a must do.

I always like watching you two review foods. Never pandering, always honest I think. BTW; "Charcuterie" is pronounced shar-KOOT-er-ee, with a soft "ch" (shh). Sausage is almost always fatty unless it's a "healthy" version. That's why they say you don't want to see how sausage is made. (Which is really a misnomer because fat is what makes sausage so good, as it is with most meats; it's what gives it flavor! I make sausage, and the right amount of fat is necessary or it is just ground meat.) I LOVE boysenberry, grew up on FRESH boysenberry milkshakes at the local Foster's Freeze in Petaluma, CA, but everything must be taken in moderation... you guys powered through some things I would have let go by. Really enjoy your channel!!!

The saddest thing I've heard this year is. Well, there needs to be a little background... Several years ago Knotts was caught in a slow economy. So, sadly they sold Knotts' Boysenberry Jams recipes to Smuckers! But just this year Smuckers has decided to stop producing the famous Knott's jams. You can no longer buy the original recipe. Knotts Boysenberry farm now sells a different formula and cannot sell it as Knotts Berry Farm jam. They no longer own the rights. Walter Knott grew the first Boysenberry for his roadside customers. The Boysenberry was named after his neighbor Mr Boysen. Which is also the name of the park next door to Knott's Boysenberry Farm in Buena Park. So if it wasn't for Walter Knott's there wouldn't be anything Boysenberries.
