The thing is the video is at least in part correct. The biggest issue with the MG42, which btw wasnt as widely used as you probably think, was its ROF. 1. There is a reason why no other country adopted the MG42's design until after the war had ended. Supply lines are ridiculously important, and when you have a supply line based on horses, good luck keeping up the ammo. 2. Guns that shoot fast, overheat fast. The MG42 had to have a quick change barrel because it could only sustain fire for 150 rounds. This adds another issue with firing, as other slower machine guns were designed to overheat slower. Also this causes more supply issues, because now you need to supply extra barrels, as old ones warp.
@user-mq1pe1dw3t
5 жыл бұрын
@@noize8148 Your number 2. is bullshit. Changing barrel after 150 shots, with a firerate of 1200 shots per minute? IF they shot 1200 rounds in one spray, then a barrel change would be necessary, but not after 150 shots. Imagine defending a line and change barrels every 10 seconds, doesn't make much sense huh? By the way, the germans had water cooled MG for defending positions and a good training in changing barrels, no Problem for them. The point with supplies is also not true, we are talking about someKilos, not thousands of tons of ammunition and equipment. The line of supplies were structured very well, even some men just for ammo and equipment, Airdrops etc.

As usual some children complain about errors in the video. Yes, there were a number of errors. Just as individuals make mistakes, so do governments, which are made up of numerous individuals. Still, this was a primer made for the new soldiers going to war, and it's better than nothing. You have to remember, most new soldiers in WW 2 were farm boys and city boys, in their late teens and early 20's that seldom had travelled more than 25 miles from their homes, let alone foreign countries. The infantry boys were usually the lower IQ boys that had lived through the Great Depression and had little going for them. Some of those boys got their first pair of shoes when they joined the military, believe it not. So don't be too harsh judging the quality of this video and remember it was made for young men, not too bright, with many disadvantages in life, born in the 20's, with little schooling.

After Poland was overrun, the Radom was produced and issued, and when Belgium was overrun, the Browning Hi-Power (GP35) was issued. Initially, the MP38/MP40 was only issued to NCOs in the squad. The rifleman were treated and trained to support the MGs issued to the squad. Also, on the uniforms, they seem to not have mentioned the Fallschirmjager, which used different helmets, boots, and smocks, or the Waffen SS, which used the feldgrau uniforms, but with distinct insignia difference. From my military service, it was considered kind of important if you captured a special operating unit member that he should be sent to battalion or company HQ for interrogation.

Also, by the time this film was produced, from the details I'd say mid 1943 to mid 1944, the German Army had revised its uniforms to use less materials. The jack boots were being replaced in 1942 with lace-ups. Simpler uniforms were being issues as well as camouflaged patterns. And the MP44, the first assault rifle, was coming into service.

Jackboots were mostly gone by the time this video was produced - it mentions campaigns as late as 1944 so the production date is August '44 at the earliest. Short boots had been standard for several years. P08 Luger was replaced by the P38 around 1935. 8cm Mortar wasn't the heavy mortar. Germans copied the Soviet 12cm mortar after encountering it during Barbarossa. Still, cool video.

On all those uniform insignias and edging as shown did that apply only to all German Regular army or Wehrmacht troops or did it also apply the same way to other Afrika Korps SS or Gestapo if these entities operated on the same exact Rank system. I was told that even in the US military the Army and Marine Corps has a difference in ranks with the Marine Corps having the rank of Gunnery Sergeant. So that makes me wonder how this would apply in regards to what I previously brought up with the Wehrmacht ranks vs the ranks of Afrika Korps, SS or Gestapo.
@Abensberg
5 жыл бұрын
the afrika korps were just regular wehrmacht soldiers in summer uniforms.. nothing special about them SS used different names for ranks but equivalent to army ranks and also a few ranks that didnt exist in the regular army also they just said the rank if talking to an officer etc. which is unique in the german military history until today normally you adress a higher rank with "HERR leutnat" gestapo wasnt a military branch but a part of the police they used mixed police and SS-ranks for high officers and police ranks SS got their own intelligence called "SD" or "Sicherheitsdienst" also there was an intelligence for the army called "Abwehr" or "geheime feldpolizei" (part of the MP)
@FusionCoreHoarder

@@Abensberg Thx for answering. I know all this, because my father ( hes 96 now) served as a Flemish volunteer in the NSKK- transportation korps. He was in Russia most of the time. He was only 17 back then...and served 3 years. They mostly supplied the Luftwaffe at the front. He told me allot about the war, never was a Nazi( most of the volunteers , also in the Waffen-ss were only anti-communists, not nazi's) . Just like the Americans were celebrated as liberators in Europe 1944 , the German troops were celebrated as liberators by the Ukraine people..because Stalin murdered hundred of thousends of them. Unfortunatly, the Nazi race doctrine ruined everything, Ukraines were not worthy according to these nazi's , because they were not arians , so called ' untermenschen'.....smh...with the help of Ukraine they could possibly have won the war.
