THIS is how you want to see Knower for the best experience; intimate, up close & personal in a club setting. FWIW, with regard to the mix: I've seen them many times and Gen's voice is ALWAYS a little under the sonic water line and you have to stretch a bit to really hear her.

Why is every single Knower live mix utter garbage? I can only hope that the mix wasn't that bad at the actual show and Genevieve was actually audible there.
@caiinperience8722

Its because the camera mic is "behind" the PA. We hear the stage sound.

My question wasn't specific enough. I know why it would sound like this. The "every" is the optimal word here, i.e. why is there not a live video where the person who made the video actually gave a fuck about the sound.
@caiinperience8722

+Master Chain: Yeah. I thought so too when I saw the live recording from "cite de la musique" in Paris today. It sounds like a "line out recording" from the FOH-desk. Not painfully "bad" but again vocals not really on top. Drums a bit too low too. Keyboards very dominating. Bass some where in between. This indicates to line-out recording. So I had the same thought like you in your second post - "why do they record the show with - i dont know how many - cameras but DONT invest in an extra audio recording guy?" Maybe cause the video guys dont have the knowledge, the ears to do so? At the end of the day its sad. We can hope Louis will ask for multitrack recordings in the future and mix the audio of "important shows" ... but again who pays for it ... its not "just a bit of work" to do it ... Just to make it a bit clearer in a VERY simplifying way for the non sound engineers: (sound dicks, please dont go mad about it - I cant post a whole book here!) A simple line out recording (in contrary to a matrix lineout recording) only sends the signals amplified by the desk/PA to the recording, while IN THE ROOM we always hear the sum (actually a quite weired mix) of: 1) acoustic sound (drums very loud, vocals much lower, electric keyboards not at all, except acoustic Pianos) 2) reflections of monitorspeakers (which point away from the audience to the artists, but then reflections of stage back walls send it back to the audience in a "fucked up" way) 3) PA-Sound (PA = public adressed ... aaaaaah ... this is actually for the audience!!!) 4) room reflections, phasing, etc. all this "shit" sums up to what we experience in the room ... so ... well ... but Master Chain ... I absolutely agree ... there should be more focus on a good sound, cause the band works hard to reach a level like KNOWER and deserves it ... and you cant explain all this bla bla bla to everyone who thinks "WTF" ? Amen ;-) dont blame me for just roughly scratching the surface! I tried my best! ;-)

It's not a Venue "Sound Problem", she is a recording singer and not a live vocalist. She sounds fantastic on the recordings but doesn't have the power for singing live in front of a very loud band on a small stage. In bigger venues it will work. That's just my opinion. KD

Gah. Why even bother with this recording? Not everything is worth putting on the internet, you know. Yes, it's Knower, we all love Knower, but that's actually even more reason to bin this. It makes them look shit. The worst live recording I've heard of them, and that's saying something.

Louis & Gen do seem a bit off, edgy, and cheerless here vibe-wise, but having seen them many times I can say that they are both quite intense and focused on stage, and Genevieve in particular is not one to fake it as far as putting on a happy face goes and appears to just let herself be emotionally genuine with whatever she feels. I've seen her absolutely glowing & happy, but more commonly she looks like she does here. Louis can really be animated and a total goofball, but he is rather reigned-in and restrained in this video. Could be jet lag, PMS, or BGS (bad gig syndrome). Or maybe Louis lost his favorite animal slippers and is worried he won't find them.

@@TiqueO6 Right, I get the fact that this is someone recording with a smartphone (or handheld camera). What I meant was that Jazz Dock (the actual club where this performance is from) uploaded this video! You can definitely hear that there is a "house mix" that's being recorded on the camera's mic, here. So, why not get the video from the person that shot it, and replace the sound with what was recorded from "the board"? Either way, I still dug it. It sounded like 55 Bar (in NYC), on a night back in the 2000s...with Wayne Krantz/Tim Lefebvre/Keith Carlock. Oh the memories! Lol.
@TiqueO6

@@bourgeoisbrats yeah I agree, they should've taken a board feed and of course mix it with a Room Mic because the board feed in a small room usually just compensates for whats not loud enough acoustically. A board feed will sound very unbalanced in a small room unless you take a separate mix off the board and very few sound persons are going to do that unless paid to do so. And the camera sound yes, the position of the camera means everything, person filming like that we usually try to stand right by the front of the stage and they will miss a lot of words coming out of the Mains and hear the backside of the monitors and everything from the stage like in this recording.

Part of the "distance" sounds like camera audio, the camera is too close to the stage and between the main speakers in the monitors there could even be problems with cancellation but likely it's just that spot where it's not imbalance, hopefully the front of house got it right
