@@mateuscortianoschwarz7276 I think Sam Wilkes is hitting a lot more ghost notes, technically making it a faster groove. This is a simplified version of the bass line.

Great job, both playing and transcribing. Fantastic to see all those cool little fills written out, although when you see it, there's less improvisation there than I thought just on listening. He sticks to the pattern really closely, which is even more impressive in that he makes it sound so free. As do you - really good playing!

I'm almost four years late reading your question, but in case you haven't already figured it out - here's the chord progression in the chorus: F#7sus4(no5) - E9sus4(no5) - D#7sus4(no5) - Dmaj7#11(no5) C#m7add11(no5) - Bm7 - F#sus2/A# - D#7sus4(no5) - F#add11/G# - F#add11/E (most of these chords have the F# on top).

Nice stuff! I'm interested in how do start transcribing new songs? Do you slow them down etc? Any tips? I'd like to start writing my own notations in the near future of songs I'd like to train. Also a song request for you to cover: TOP - Attitude Dance
@BennyTheBassman
5 жыл бұрын
Amazing! Thanks for the request - love everything by TOP so I'll be more than happy to do that one for ya :) As for your question - YES absolutely do it! Transcribing is really great practice for your ear and also your rhythmic sense. It's also a really great way to get inside the head of another bass player. The "right tools" are important - I use the program "Transcribe!" to play back songs while I'm transcribing them. It's a little program that I love, and yes I definitely do slow them down (transcribe can slow down/speed up to any percentage without changing the pitch, and also change pitch without changing the speed) if I get stuck on something or there's a really fast passage. Generally if I'm working at a normal pace I'll just play one bar, and then stop the track, and try to sing (or sing under my breath, etc) the bass part. If I can sing it then I can write it down. If I can't sing it I go back and listen to it again or slow it down etc. Once I can sing it and understand what is happening in the bar I just write it down in Sibelius (I have Sib 7.5). From there I can export the chart as a PDF, or as a movie (for youtube). Then usually I'll start playing the song on the bass and just listen out for any notes that I maybe didn't write properly (some passages only start to make sense when you have a bass on). Hope that helps!

Interesting. I wonder about that though - these videos aren't really a sightreading exercise as much as they are an instructional on how to play the tunes - would having the score rush/be de-synched with the music be more of a distraction? I don't know. To actually learn the full tune and read along etc, patrons on my Patreon page get the full PDF charts.
