Knute Hitch - Securing a Tool to a Lanyard - How to Tie the Knute Hitch *Knot Start*: 2:00
The Knute Hitch is said to have come about when Brion Toss needed to secure his Marlin Spike to his lanyard. From what I understand, his Marlin Spike was called Knute, so he decided to call this particular knot the Knute Hitch. For those of you who do not know, Brion Toss is a Master Rigger and has written a few hefty books on rigging.
The Knute Hitch is a wonderful easy and secure way of tying a lanyard to a tool (providing that the tools has an eye). It is a very secure way of tying a tool to a lanyard. A quick pull on the stopper knot, lifts the loop to allow for a fairly quick release of the tool from the lanyard.
There is a similar version of the Knute Hitch in Ashley's Book of Knots 1965, however this hook appears to have two eyes through which the rope is threaded.
